| paulv's Full Review: Palau |
There is not a better spot in the world to SCUBA dive. I don't dive any more because I'm land locked and I don't travel now that I have three
kids.
My experience in Palau was breath taking and invigorating. I've explored the wonderful waters in the Caribbean, off the shore of Long Island, the
coastlines of three Hawaiian Islands and both coastlines of Costa Rica. Diving in Palau made my other excursions look like trips to an aquarium attached to a wave pool.
The coral is so diverse and colorful it looked man made. The variety of fish I saw impressed me so much, I had to take pictures, for fear no one would believe me. Sea snakes, sea crocodiles and the great white sharks all were with in sight on several occasions. The giant sea turtles brought me back to a much calmer state, thank God. If I could have stayed in Palau I would have.
The waters around this Eden Island chain are used as a breeding ground for sea turtle and the great white shark. The sea crocodiles don't have any natural predators to to contend with, other than man. Stories of these prehistoric creatures are often told as lore and as a caution statement to tourist.
The diving experience alone was enough to convince me I belonged there and not in Pennsylvania. The other wonderful things I remember about my month stay in the historic Island chain are the genuine people, great food, inexpensive shopping and lodging and the beautiful hand crafts to be collected.
The humidity is always high, 80% plus. Temperatures stay in the 70's and 80's. The water temperature is always in the low 80's. Rain is a daily occurrence, but it's not anything to worry about because the sun will be right back. I absolutely loved the weather.
Traveling to Palau was a very long flight from Honolulu and jet lag had it's ill effects. A day of sleep and the burning desire to see the sights, in and out of the water, beat out my body's need for rest. The relaxing environment was more than enough to conquer a little jet lag.
I would go back in a second and the only thing I would do differently is plan to stay a lot longer. Maybe even forever. It is wonderful, relaxing, inexpensive, culturally enhancing and all together the greatest vacation I have ever taken.
