Stoby's restaurants...some of the best around.

Stoby’s is a restaurant that started in downtown Conway, Arkansas. It is somewhat of an icon in this small town. People come from many miles around just to eat there. Once, when I was in college, two older ladies stopped me on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas to ask me where Stoby’s was located. I gave them directions and they thanked me. They told me that they were from Russellville (about 45 miles away) and just came to Conway to eat at Stoby’s. Now there is a Stoby’s restaurant in Russellville.
This restaurant is basically a sandwich shop that has many different types of food. The menu consists of food such as:
1. The Stoby – this is a cold sandwich that has your choice of three meats and two cheeses. The choices of meats for this sandwich are ham, turkey, salami, summer sausage, and bologna. The choices of cheeses are American, Cheddar, Provolone, Mozzarella, and Jalapeno. You also get to choose between these breads: pita, wheat pita, 6” bun, natural, sourdough, or rye.
2. Pita Tuna – this sandwich is tuna in a pita shell with lettuce and tomato. Stoby’s has some of the best tuna around.
3. Pita Taco – this is basically taco meat in a tuna shell with lettuce and tomato. This is one of my very favorite sandwiches.
4. Roast Beef sandwich – this is just what it sounds like…the only difference is that it tastes homemade. You can also choose from the 6 different types of bread for this sandwich.
5. Small sandwich – this is a smaller version of ‘The Stoby.’ For this sandwich, you choose from two meats and one cheese.
These are just a few of the many great things on the menu at Stoby’s. The most famous thing at Stoby’s is their cheese dip. They actually mass produce the cheese dip and sell it all around the state at gas stations and convenience stores. It is a different type of cheese dip than you have ever had before…if you are ever in the area, stop y and get some just to try it out…I’ll guarantee you’ll love it.
Now that all of that is out of the way, I can get to the best things on Stoby’s menu…the deserts. Stoby’s has some of the best desserts on the planet. My personal favorite is the strawberry shortcake. This is regular strawberry shortcake with a layer of vanilla pudding thrown in. It is delicious!!! The other desserts on their menu include milk shakes, peanut butter pie and chocolate cheesecake. The chocolate cheesecake is one of the best in the world also.
Stoby’s also has an award winning breakfast. The breakfast menu includes bacon, eggs, biscuits & gravy, omelets, grits, etc. (there has to be grits in the south). It is, by far, the best breakfast in town. Stoby’s has won many state awards for their breakfasts.
So, if you are ever in the area of central Arkansas, stop by and check out Stoby’s. It’s only a few block from the University of Central Arkansas, and you won’t regret stopping by. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is unforgettable. You may have to wait for a table, but it’s worth it.
