I gotta... (Reply to this comment)

...see that Ripley's museum - I've been a fan of Ripley's Believe or Not since I was a kid, when my dad gave me his copy of a book of collected newspaper articles, copyright 1940 or some such!
Another great review...

Okay... (Reply to this comment)

About Gustav's Jagerhaus - have to throw in my opinion and say I've eaten there numerous times. My wife likes it (she was a 30 year resident of Anaheim and considers herself an Anaheimer). I -- an army brat born in Germany, lived there for 7+ years and havr traveled there many times -- do not like Gustav's. The food they serve there is not from a real German kitchen. My mom, a German currently residing in Germany, but also a former Anaheimer, totally agrees. I only mention this because, except for the easy-to-cook things like Bratwurst, Gustav's entrees are of generally poor quality and presentation. The Rotkraut always looks off-colored (gray-brown instead of red), etc. We don't think too much of the Phoenix Club's Lorelei restaurant, either. But, then, I must say, for those who have never eaten in Germany... these restaurants will seem to be pretty good.
As to eating at Downtown Disney... on the weekends, forget it unless you are prepared to wait an hour or more. Prices are generally high and a glass of Bass Ale costs as much as $6 in some restaurants. There are better dining opportunities away from Disney... like in the City of Orange (The Block) or further East down the road on Katella Avenue (King's Fish House, J.T. Schmidt's Brewpub).
I hope I don't sound like I'm disagreeing with you. Your review is very helpful; I just don't regard Gustav's too highly. One thing that is very disappointing about Anaheim: for a place that was originally settled by Germans... there is a decided lack of good-quality German restaurants. There's not a single good German restaurant that I can think of in Orange County. And that's pretty sad.

I know it sounds strange that I eat at a place that I assert serves less-than-authentic food.
In Gustav's defense, I will say that the Brats are good and they do serve German beer. That's reason enough for me to eat there from time-to-time.

My mom, who was born in Hanover, loves Gustav's. I think she usually goes for a schnitzel which is probably on your list of easy to prepare stuff. I'm with you on the rotkohl. I dislike the Phoenix Club as the couple of times I've been there I felt as though I was surrounded by people who would have been at home in Hitler's Germany.
Very spooky.
There are indeed lots of places to eat nearby, though I tried to concentrate on Anaheim locations. Besides the good stuff in Orange, I'd also recommend heading up to Fullerton for Angelo and Vinci's backstage Pizza (the vegetarian pizza is the best in town) or to Rutebegorz for funky fun. (I think there is now one in Orange, too.)
Thanks for reading and rating and commenting. Your comments are really helpful for others coming to our fair shores.

The last time I was down there, the Pottery place and the glass place were both still there and both still having going out of business sales (as they have had since I can remember.)
Do you remember go-karting next to the Akron (now Circuit City)on Beach Blvd down the street from KBF?
If you're in the area and want something more grown-up to do, take Beach Blvd north to the end in Hacienda Heights. Take the first right and then the first left. You will find yourself on a winding road. Stay on it. You will eventually get to a Buddhist Temple (The one that got Gore in all the trouble.) You can walk around the grounds there. It's quite lovely. They have an all you can eat vegetarian lunch everyday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for (last time I was there) $5. There is also a tea room with a lovely menu though they are usually out of whatever I want. Definitely worth going to if you're in the neighborhood.

Didn't we all have a crush on him at one time or another?

I lived in Anaheim (Reply to this comment)
by remnjava
briefly, about a year. Born and raised in LA County. I guess the translation of Anaheim is Ana's Home. I never thought too much about it until you mentioned it was a German town. My dad was from Germany. We were too poor at the time to do much of anything while living in this wonderful town.
I never realized this was a topic. I guess I'll have to consider writing a review on it. Thanks for the inspiration!

You definitely should write about it. Everyone has different experiences in a place this large and those translate into offering more assistance to our visitors.
