| SaLT's Full Review: Catalina Island |
Imagine a salty breeze gusts by, illuminating the night sky with twilight shells and frigid breezes. Everywhere you look, the night gazes back at you, as you believe yourself to be in a degree of death, though life streams around you as active as the island itself. Everywhere you stare upon, life is vigorously awaiting new experiences and memories.
Life is active, yet time stands still. You stand on the sandy horizon, roughly gazing upon the beach which is noted from this remote island. Crystal water beseeches your swim, as fish can be noted from your current position. Coral reefs and swells crave your frolic, almost as though they have been awaiting your arrival.
Welcome to the island of opportunity. Welcome to Catalina Island.
Paradise?
You are far from dead.
I'd never conquer, rarely came.
Tomorrow held such better days,
Days when I can still feel alive,
When I can't wait to get outside.
The world is wide, the time is right.
The tour is over I'd survive.

Aye, Catalina Island - one of the most beautiful resorts in the world. This getaway is of pure grace as well as luxury. Memories emanate from such a resort of optimistic reality, as well consumed in such a sense. Irony begs this review - not only is Catalina a refuge from everyday life, but this review shall serve as a refuge from the majority subject of that of the norm of my editorials: Web Services and Computers.
You may ask, what qualities might the visitor require? What do Twin Harbors (not "two" as stated in Epinions' description) and Avalon offer? What's so refreshing about a trip as such?
Like something from a fairy tale which was read to you as a young child.
Let me explain.
«« What This Getaway Offers »»
Surf, parasailing, kayaks, glass-bottom boats, snorkeling, scuba diving, cruises, restaurants on the water.. basically everything affiliated with water.
Learning how to manage a shortboard or parasailing is of grace at a high magnitude. Wave size varies depending upon which time is presented among the year. For example, having Twin Harbors be a more secluded area, waves tend to be more vast as that of a city such as Avalon. Depending upon the wanted city for going should be based on whichever reason you feel your vacation qualifies.
Ah.. snorkeling and scuba diving. Scuba diving rental is mainly prohibited towards those who lack the essential training, yet snorkeling rental is open to all the public (for the most part). From the shores of Catalina, you are able to witness life in its most vulnerable state, as you will discover schools of tiny, tropical fish scurry away from your trail upon the realization in which they have surrounded you. Larger fish (about 2 pounds) and others tend not to care as much, which will allow you to observe them in a natural state. Crystal water enables you to see all walks of life from quite a distance away.
Kayak rentals are available, which allow you to explore the outer shores of the island, as well as non-visited parts such as reef caves and natural/secluded beaches. Rentals are generally by the hour, as you can either rent "half-day" or "full".
«« Personal Experiences »»
I remember the first time I saw Catalina from my house as though it were yesterday. On a clear day, Catalina is quite vivid from the city of Long Beach. You are able to see the island from quite a distance, as it appears as crystal-clear as visions of mountains from sub-rocky areas.
I remember the first time I visited Catalina as though it were yesterday. As a small child with my bags packed and dreams imagined, I headed towards the boat which would deliver us to Twin Harbor. From the shores of Long Beach to that of Catalina was an approximated hour and a half. With wind rushing past the small ship into the deep, sky-blue pacific ocean, everyone on the boat was in relaxation and bliss.
Night fell upon our arrival into Catalina's shores, as well our camp site awaited us near the tides over rocky cliffs of Twin Harbor. From the days we spent to the nights we slept, Catalina served us well. Much like before, the Island of Opportunity, as I purchased my Becker short and tided the waves during the early morning until noon. I hadn't experimented on any non-required boats during this trip with the exception of kayaks, though I also took advantage of snorkeling. Observing tiny fish swim around you as a recreational activity is not only uplifting for the mind, but also for the human nature.
Since then, I have been back many times.
«« Conclusion »»
Through my experiences at this remote island, I can only recommend that you have indulged yourself a required one time. Though many beach lovers will enjoy such a hideaway, I would not recommend this resort to that of an audience which contain a genuine phobia of water.
Personally, if the means of travel resided in cars instead of given golf carts which roam the streets, I would consider this resort as a home upon a future life. Though not certain, rumors reside about this island as containing wild boars, which was considered fact until a sudden "extinguishing" several years ago. Whether they still live on Catalina is beyond my grasp.
Anyone searching for a vacation, or a refuge, getaway, hideaway, home; anything. I can only in good conscience recommend such an existence upon a benefactor of the existing planet.
