Pros: Beautiful grounds. Historic site.
Cons: Expensive beyond the degree of luxury; mediocre service.
The Bottom Line: A has-been hotel. We found it expensive, with poor service. Did not live up to its website description.

| mallenbell's Full Review: Hotel del Coronado |
My wife and I brought our two kids (age 10, 11) and attended a medical conference at the Hotel Del. We stayed for a total of six nights and five days. From the start, we realized that the hotel had a reputation which it struggled to lived up to. The grounds are beautiful, but the hotel itself leaves much to be desired. Few activities for kids are available, despite what the website indicates (it states that there is a nightly club for kids to hang out together; when we checked with the concierge, they seemed surprised and were not aware of anything of the sort). The floor of our room was slanted about 15 degrees. The old-school elevator operators were creepy. Smokers abound (technically not allowed indoors, but prevalent immediately outdoors, which allowed for frequent wafting of smoke). A drunk vomiting in the bar bathroom was one of the low points. The personnel did not cater like a Four Seasons, for instance, would, despite $310/night. The night before we left, our neighbors had their TV so loud that we could hear every word (this at 3am, with us having to get up at 6am for our flight) and it took three calls to the front desk and close to an hour to get them to talk to our neighbors. I would not go back.
