Pros: Nice, quite place to spend your day laying on the beach!
Cons: not too much to do, but that's what we were looking for...

I've got to start by saying, this is the best vacation spot, and almost unknown!
We were looking for a real vacation, but nothing too expensive. We went to our local AAA office and requested some travel guides. Ocean City, Maryland was one of the first they handed us. Way too much exposure, we wanted something more relaxed. They gave us a tour guide on Delaware. The first place they suggested was Rehoboth beach, which also has a small (-er than Ocean City) strip. That didn't interests us too much. Then we looked further down the shore line and saw a smaller beach, Dewey beach. Well, that looked like the perfect spot for us!
We found out it's a smaller, but beautiful, beach, with lots of sand, sand and more sand. There were not as many tourists attractions and the motel/hotel rate's were very reasonable. We called the Bellbuoy Inn and spoke to the owner whom was very friendly and very helpful. I'm going to post the rates from their 2000 price sheet, so you get an idea of how competitive they are.
March 31 - May 25 $39 to $55 (this is when we went, the weekend before Memorial Day, fill you in more later)
June 1 - June 29 $45 to $115
July 5 - Aug 31 $79 to $140
Sept 5 - Sept 24 $55 to $89
Sept 25- Oct 31 $39 to $55
Memorial day, July 4th, Labor Day weekends are separate rates and have a 4 day minimum. Rates are based on double occupancy
No pets during season. They are located at 21 Van Dyke Street
Dewey Beach, DE 19971
and their reservation number is (302) 227-6000
We were driving in from (near) Cleveland, OH and it took us about 14 hours. Upon arrival, we couldn't believe how close to the beach we actually were. We were literally less than 100 feet from the beach. The motel was on one of many side streets along Highway 1, and each has it's own private entrance to the beach. We checked in, and we were on the ground floor, there are 3 floors at this motel. We had a king size bed, and a twin bed for the children. There was a refrigerator and stove, a microwave and cupboards, just like a small apartment. There was a smaller bathroom, with tub and shower. The room had air conditioning as well. We were very pleased with the accommodations.
We loved the beach, there were no more than 20 people on it at one time, and yes, I know we were there at an "off-peak" time, but it was just as wonderful. My 5 year old loved being able to actually find whole shells along the shoreline and being able to play in the sand were among here favorites. It was very relaxing and peaceful.
We also drove in to "town" and they have one of the biggest outlet malls here. We had a great time spending money there! Other than that, there are some great pizza places and the usual fast food joints. Not much else is around, if the mall wasn't enough. (it takes up both sides of the road) This is exactly the kind of laid back vacation spot we will go back to every year.
