| vendetta's Full Review: Little Havana |
Havana is the capital of Cuba. Little Havana is basically half of cuba's population condensed into a couple of miles of little supermarkets and restaurants. Being cuban myself.....this is no problem to me, but I cannot say that this is one of the hotspots in Miami because then I would be lying to you. The only times that it's great to visit is during the day time, preferably during lunce time, when there is a wide selection of great foods to get that stomach ready to pass a lot of gas from the black beans and chicken.
There is also one of Miami's biggest occasions that happens once a year in Little Havana. This is known as Calle Ocho (Eighth Street). Basically it's about 24 blocks of sweaty hispanics all trying to eat all they can and chug down beer while listening to todays hottest spanish artists perform on different stages. This celebration is great because you can receive free t-shirts, baloons, and even offers from large companies that setup booths all around the festivities.
Every time I go to Little Havana I have to stop in my favorite restaurant also-La Carreta. This is a personal recommendation that will leave your stomach so full you probably won't be able to fit under that steering wheel. There's also a domino, yes domino, playing center where you can meet all the retired men that do nothing all day but play this game and wait for their check in the mail.
In essence, Little Havana brings out a smile in me because its' great to see my people are still doing the same thing they were doing in the 80's. If you come to Miami...swing by the old blocks and check out the culture...you might fall in love with it and want to live there. =)
