Review Topic: Practical Information
Orlando Florida has many wonderful attractions to offer families, and many frustrations for drivers trying to get to them.
Orlando has many wonderful attractions for all ages of kids, including those that call themselves adults. Some of these more notable attractions include Disney World (Magick Kingdom, Epcot Center, Disney-MGM Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom), Universal Studios, Jungles of Adventure, Church Street Station, Sea World, Arabian Nights, Medieval Times, and not too far away is the Kennedy Space Center. In addition to the many great attractions, many areas of the city are very attractive.
With as many tourist attractions as Orlando and the nearby areas have to offer, I would think the city would make commuting and finding one’s way around as simple as possible. This unfortunately does not seem to be the case. Unless you decide to take a bus from a hotel to one of the theme parks or other tourist attractions, it is not too difficult to get confused on the roads.
Allow me to give a few examples, which may offer clarification to someone who may be intending to travel to Orlando in the near future.
1. In the event you need to find anything on or around Sand Lake Road, you may also find the road listed as County Highway 482. This road eventually runs into the Bee Line Express.
2. If you are looking for John Young Parkway be sure to look for County Highway 423, as they are one in the same.
3. If you are looking for the Bee Line Express to get to the Orlando International Airport, keep an eye peeled for State Highway 528, as these are the same roads.
These roads are just a few of the difficulties a driver can face. I discovered all of these dual name roads while looking for a business that happened to be listed under the alternate name for the road. Dual named roads only create minor confusion, however, I did run into a problem that potential could have been much more serious.
After off ramping from I-4 trying to get to International Drive (somewhere around highway 528 I think), I thought I had made a serious mistake turning into one-way traffic. I based my fear on the turn arrow painted on the street, in my lane going the opposite direction I was going. I later found out the area had been a construction area and the arrow had not been removed. This is an accident waiting to happen.
Although Orlando might be home to the Magic Kingdom, the confusion a driver may experience on the roads can quickly destroy the good memories formed at the local attractions.
Try to get a map of the Orlando area in advance to any travel, plot out routes to those places you would like to visit. Be sure to watch for roads with dual names.
If you are intending to go to Orlando in the near future, I hope some of these road issues help you find your way around easier.
