Palm Beach County and the rest of three counties below are nothing but a tourist trap. I relocated from one up north thinking it would be different here. Wrong. All I did was to fall in with the same people who monopolized the summer season back there.
Sure, So. Florida has it attractions, if your a vacationer or a young person looking for excitement then this is the place for you. Unfortunately, the older residents are in the majority.
I agree with ibw929 with his description of Palm Beach County. What I would like to add is, try finding a joy at the age 57, with 17 years of continued employment at your previous job. What I found was, it's not what you know, but, how you look. Several jobs which I was qualified for went to "Air Heads" that were young and good looking. Two of these positions were located close enough to check on. They both changed the employees three times within five months.
Yes, this is a great place if you come here with family and are close enough to former friends, that would make for a great situation. But try it alone with no one to direct you or help you with the ways of Florida living. I won't even go into the "Condo" situation. That in it self is a whole other sordid story.
There are few real rooted families that I can see. Too many snow birds who can care less about neighbors. Too few safe places to go out in the evenings, even the supermarkets, a pick pockets paradise.
I remember better days, and better ways, when neighbors truly cared, and days when one never had to look over you shoulder in fear. And am at the point of no return, how sad.
