Atlanta rocks. Plain and simple. Ive been to Atlanta 6 times and have loved it each and every time. Im a huge music fanatic and Atlanta has some of the best independant musicians out there. Ive been to major sporting events in Atlanta as well (Olympics and Womens Final Four games) and the traffic and crowd was very well controlled and not an issue at all.
Decatur (http://www.decaturga.com) is the place to stay. Its directly right outside of the city and has a terrific "hometown" feeling. I love seeing the people sitting outside the cafes with a coffee or beer with their dog laying by their side. Its a really awesome town that is also home to Watershed (http://www.watershedrestaurant.com). A fantastic restaurant owned by Indigo Girl (http://www.indigogirls.com) Emily Saliers and friends. You WILL NOT find a better chocolate or carrot cake. Its to die for. They use alot of organic and natural foods there. Its a bit on the pricey side but its totally worth it. If your lucky - youll spot Emily serving up some wine or cleaning some dishes while your there. Another place thats a must? The Flying Biscuit (http://www.flyingbiscuit.com/) for breakfast. You wont be dissappointed.
Music scene? Try Eddies Attic (http://www.eddiesattic.com) in Decatur. You wont find better music than the likes of Michelle Malone (http://www.michellemalone.com). Being a Decatur resident - Emily Saliers still makes guest appearances there (and other places) as does the other half of the Indigo Girls, Amy Ray (http://www.amy-ray.com). Amy Rays record label - Daemon Records (http://www.daemonrecords.com/index.htm) - is located in Decatur as well. Check out a band called Three5Human (http://www.three5human.com) if theyre playing when your there.
Must sees? Olympic Park (http://www.centennialpark.com/). The water fountain display and the park itself is very beautiful. World Of Coke (http://www.woccatlanta.com/) - Ive been through tree times and still get a kick out of it. The Underground (http://www.underground-atlanta.com/) is a must as well. Even though its really lame - you still gotta go and at least score yourself an Atlanta keychain or tshirt. Stone Mountain (http://www.stonemountainpark.com/) has awesome laser light shows and tons to do for just about anyone. The Georgia Music Hall of Fame Museum (http://www.gamusichall.com/home.html). If your into music and can appreciate all kinds - Its a must see. They have tons of interactive things within the museum. Check out the tribute to TLCs Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. TLC hails from the ATL.
For coffee? The Java Monkey (http://www.javamonkeydecatur.com). They have open mic nights and graet selections of wine as well. Sports? Gotta catch a Braves (http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=atl) game at Turner Field. Buses run from the Underground in a very organized and timely manner and drop you off and pick you up right outside the stadium gates. I have 2 Golden Retrievers and always bring them back treats from my Atlanta visit. Go to The Posh Pup (http://www.communityreview.net/gbase/Expedite/Content?oid=oid:596) on Church street in Decatur for the very finest in pet treats and toys.
Ive only really just briefly touched on the amount of things to do in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. I always find new and fun things to do.
