I visited Atlanta this past summer and I was pleasantly surprised by it's vibrant an unique gay nightlife...
Most of the clubs that guides call "the best" are mere sleazy bars that try to be something that you would find in NYC, LA or SF. The truth is that they are pass or fail depending on the crowd that attends that night. You should arrive at places like BACKSTREETS fairly late and only on weekends around 11 or 12 midnight.
The truly unique and fun filled nightlife experience, for this NYC native, was HODOWNS, a gay country western bar. Wow! What a change from what im used to in big cities!
I went on a weekend night and the place was packed with great wholesome, sexy, country, clean cut men! It was a refreshing change from the usual snotty queens you'd find in a big city bar. If you're looking for club going queens, go to NYC or LA. If you're looking for traditional, down to earth handsome guys, check this out! Although gays from the south are sick of the gay country scene, queens of the north should definately check it out!
Bring your pointed leather boots and tons of plaid! Seeing young and old gay guys (and some lesbian sisters, too) dance and have fun is just too rare these days. The best thing of all...they'll actually ask you to dance and someone actually leads!
