Pros:Quiet Peacefull Place with GOOD FOOD and Friendly People

Cons:May be overtaken by development soon

The Bottom Line: Simply Put, the best little day trip in GA!

Located in Quiet Central Georgia is a quaint little town that captured my imagination the first time that I had the pleasure of being a visitor.

This place is not a Big Town but that's its charm!

This is a place that reminded me of my childhood where people waved and spoke to you as you rode by, you could still hear birds singing and smell the sweet smell of flowers in the spring.

Once a very prosperous city and county in days gone by, Sparta is now a peaceful little wayside that causes one to take pause and reflect.

This is an EXCELLENT day trip or a brief stop if you are in the Central Georgia Area Sparta is 22 Miles Form Milledgeville, 56 Miles Form Macon, 71 Miles from Augusta and 110 Miles From Atlanta

The city is full of pre-civil war ante-bellum homes. Sherman did not burn this town on his march to the sea. If you were to park and walk around the town (approx. 4 miles to get around the center, you would see all sorts of wonderful houses they are in the process of being lovingly restored by the many people from the country that are re-locating to this tranquil place.

There is plenty of "Good Eat'in" of all descriptions and for all tastes. There is a regular sit down restaurant called Grier's TYLI (Try It You'll Like It) which has regular home cooking served up daily. They serve a great breakfast and usually have all you can eat Catfish. They are located just after you pass City Hall and head south on the Sandersville Hwy at the fork.

There is the Hargrove's Snack Bar which is located in the lobby of the city's one and only theater. Mr. Hargrove has created a Sports Bar atmosphere in the place with a Big Screen TV that can be watched while dining on places of generous helpings of fried Fish, Chicken and all sorts of other things. If you happen to go there, check out the Homemade Cakes that are served up for dessert. You'll never want to leave! Soon Hargrove's will have the main theater restored so that events can be held in the facility also! Be on the lookout for the rotating police light at the entrance. If you see it then they are open!.

Nicki's is the local hangout for the burger and pool crowd. On many weekend evenings, you will see young people at Nicki's playing electronic games and at the pool tables. Many times' Nicki's has Late nite hours sot its a great place to catch a snack if you are in town and get the munches. Nicki's is located on the main street at the corner of Spring and Broad. Home of the Sparta Burger!

If you want more if the standard type of fare, There is Mr. Hong Kong, The local Chinese food place where you can get food everyday except sunday, The New Subway Sandwich Shop and the Chester Fried Chicken in the M&M Store on the East Side of town.

For Quick Grab and go food try the Golden Pantry on Broad St at Powelton. Their Breakfast is a classic and there is Chicken Galore all day and the Little Roundup at the far east side of town on the Augusta HWY. They have MASSIVE chunks of PIZZA that is divine!

The City have a Pine Tree Festival in the Fall where the area turns out for parades, Shows Food and fun. The County Courthouse yard is transformed into an amusement park where young and old enjoy rides, cotton candy, corn dogs , games and stuff. If you are in the area in October, you don't want to miss this one.

If you are nearby...You'll hear the noise!!!

Sparta is a great place to live, many people from all over are taking advantage of the low property values and cost of living and making this wonderful little town home. You'll hear so many northern accents at times, you wonder if you are still down south here.

Sparta is located on GA HWY 15 . If you are coming from Atlanta, Take I-20 East to exit 138 (Siloam) Turn RIGHT and go to the caution light (HWY 15) Turn Left and go 21 miles. The road will take you right into Sparta's Monument Square at the Courthouse.

Hotel accommodations in Sparta are currently being remodeled. You can find lodging in Milledgeville (Left at Monument Square) or Warrenton (Right at Monument Square)

Sparta is an Ideal Day Trip where you can walk around, unwind, talk to the friendly people and eat some really good food Southern Style (which means until you are almost ready to burst)

Come on by soon!
