| lovejeter's Full Review: Kauai |
I was in Kauai last month(March) and it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Everything was so green, the flowers are so bright and colourful and the water is the bluest of blue. There are roaring waterfalls to see especially during the rainy season in the winter when they are really flowing. Some of which you can see from the roadway and others you have to drive a few miles to see over skinny, winding roads. The beaches are filled with white sand especially Poipu Beach which is one of the most popular on the island for swimming, sunning and people watching. You may even catch a glimpse of a whale breaching in the water off in the distance (winter-time) or a monk seal beaching itself to sun in the middle of the crowded beach. There are a few beaches on the west side of the island which you are guaranteed sun all day long (the dry side) some with secluded swimming areas and others with the surf running wild where you may see the locals hangin ten on their surf boards. A definite must on the island is the drive up to the Waimea Canyon. While it may be a wet journey up (you are in the rainiest place on earth) the views at the top are just spectacular. The colours of the canyon are breathtaking. Be sure to bring your binoculars for the up close look of the canyon, hidden waterfalls and mountain goats climbing ever so carefully up the mountains. On your way back from the canyon be sure to stop at JOJO's Shave Ice. Its like a snow cone but the ice is shaved thinner and the flavor choices are so plentiful you'll be coming back to try different variations. PS..Be sure to get it with ice cream on the bottom. MMMMMMMM Everywhere you drive there's sites to see. Take your time to soak it up cause no ones in a real hurry on the island. People are generally courteous drivers and the people are extremely polite and always say "Aloha". There is so much more to see on the island than I can talk about here you just have to see it for yourself. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
