We visited several Hawaiian Island during our Honeymoon and I can honestly say that Kauai was my very favorite. It is by far the most romantic, quiet, laid back island, with the exception of Lanai that still offers an abundance of great sightseeing and history.
We stayed at the Hyatt Kauai--we were originally booked there for 3 nights. Upon our departure into the lobby, we immediately changed our reservations to 5 nights. We knew right then this was the place for us!
The hotel was outstanding and the views were superb, not to mention the restaurants and facilities. A great experience!
As far as the sightseeing, Kauai offers their version of the Grand Canyon, which is a magnificent drive, plus wonderful helicopter rides. We saw some of the largest and remote waterfalls and canyons, as well as whales from our viewpoint-it was a great experience. We also saw some of the agriculture on this wonderful islands, and the sugar plantations. There is a rich history to all the islands and our guide was very thorough.
True Kauai does not offer the abundance of nightlife or chain restaurants that you can find in Maui or Oahu, but there are excellent beaches, a more remote and quiet atmosphere and great scenery, as well as wonderful side-trips. There is also great golf and beaches. For a honeymoon, it was superb. If you are traveling with children, a more developed island or destination is probably preferred.
