Kauai has many beautiful aspects, the northern shore beaches are full of beauty, the spontanteous waterfalls, rivers and mountains. It was unfortunate that the Na Pali Coast wasn't easily accessible and most of the movie sites were mainly accessible by tour only. There weren't that many places you could take your car and after a couple of weeks I felt isolated and bored. The farmers markets were great, I loved drinking straight from the coconut, the restaurants were varied. If I were to go there again, I'd shorten my stay to a week.

We stayed in a private rental house in Haena (northern shore) which was much nicer than a hotel since we could cook etc. It cost around $700 per week for a 2brm house with spa. I think it's much better to stay in a house as opposed to a hotel. The hotels are much more expensive and inconvenient (you're forced to eat out all the time etc.).
