| SirMontego's Full Review: Lanai |
Lanai is on of the smallest islands of the Hawaiian Islands. At a mere 141 square miles and a 2,800 person population, one can clearly call it country. I recently had the experience of visiting this former "Pineapple Isle" and found it extremely relaxing.
Since the island is so small and the population very low everyone knows each other. The residents also know when a new car is on the island and when almost any major change occurs. Tourists should know this because as they stroll through Lanai City the residents will know that those particular people do not live there.
I walked through the city, ate lunch, and visited the three 3 supermarkets, the 3 non hotel restaurants, and 1 theater. These stores have almost everything a major city supermarket sells including fish, meat, DVD players, clothes, and Star Wars toys.
Lanai is also located a mere 50 miles from Honolulu--the major Hawaii city. Yet, unlike most states in America, Lanai residents must either fly or take a boat to their state’s capital. On my particular travel I choose the airplane route which is the most popular and the fastest.
Additionally, ninety eight percent of the land on Lanai is owned by Lanai Company, Inc. This “monopoly” controls all three major hotels The Manele Bay Hotel and The Lodge at Koele.
