Great added information (Reply to this comment)

We only saw three of the plantations you have listed since my navigation skills left a bit to be desired that day. If anyone else plans to drive to these plantations be sure to have good maps, the roads on brochures don't give adequate information!
I was disappointed at Oak Alley, very short tour, and not much to see...but beautiful surroundings.

Paul,
History was my minor in college---but I've always been fascinated by how things came to be the way they are---and that is history in a nutshell.
Thanks for your kind words.

Did You Major in History in College? (Reply to this comment)
by colonialpara
Howard,
Along with your high level of photographic knowledge, an exceptional gift with the written word, I have also discovered that you are a lover of what appears to be, all things historic.
Per chance, did you major in history in college? I know you love photography, but you never cease to amaze me in that you are a treasure trove of so many wonderful, but obscure pieces of knowledge.

read something like this when I lived in Louisianna years ago. I would have taken the time to visit some of the lovely estates you describe here.
Great review, again :)

You reminded me I want to watch Ghosts of Mississippi; Song of the South isn't on video that I know of, but hopefully one day! Dirty rice sounds awful, too.

of these great estates. Love traveling the River Road. Got to add a good restaurant or two:
For Fine Food
Lafitte's Landing (Donaldsonville)
For Fun Food
The Cabin Restaurant (Highway 22 at 44, Burnside)
Cheers! Laissez les bons temps rouler.

reminded me of the movie "Gone With the Wind". You write such informative reviews - you just can't ask for anything better. Thanks!
