Shreveport
I have lived in Shreveport my whole life. It has grown in the last few years tremendously, becoming a crossroads for many travelers and the residence of many more people. With the advent of the main visitor attraction: the Casinos, and the Miss U.S.A pageant for a few years, Shreveport has bloomed. A plethora of new businesses have been formed and are continuing to be built. There may not be a lot to do, but there is definitely something to do in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Diversity
One issue many people seem to be intimidated by is the diversity and sometimes prejudice. Many people are not exposed to the type of environment in Shreveport and many people dislike it. In my years in Shreveport, I have not really been affected by diversity. What I believe many “outsiders” may mistake for prejudice is actually a simple separation of races. This may not be a positive thing, but this diversity, chances are, will not affect in any way your stay in Shreveport, if you plan on traveling here.
Entertainment & Recreation
In recent years, the casinos and many other things have been added to the “things to do” list in Shreveport.
You can read about all the casinos in the other epinions, but I believe that another great thing to experience in Shreveport are the many different southern cooking restraints and cafes. There is also a myriad of Mexican restaurants such as Chillis, On the Border, Nickis, Posados, El Chicos, and more. The southern/Cajun cooking cannot be rivaled by anyone except, naturally, New Orleans.
Festivals
If you plan your trips around a festival or two, you may find your stay to be more enjoyable. The main ones are: Artbreak, Mudbug Madness, and The Revel. They are held on the Riverfront in the Festival Plaza; which has recently been redesigned for greater security and space. Artbreak is when local painters, sculptors and artists in general show and sell their original artwork. Local schools also showcase their students’ better artwork for everyone’s enjoyment. Mudbug Madness is, well, Mudbug Madness. Local and Regional Mudbug sellers come and sell their Mudbugs and everyone feasts and gets fat. Good fun. Quite an experience that I guarantee you, you will not find anywhere but Louisiana. The Revel is when again, artwork is shown of and there are many rides all around the Festival Plaza. You can also enjoy may different types of food being sold to raise money for local schools, churches, and nonprofit organizations. There are free crafts for kids, and musical entertainment for anyone. There is also entertainment for the kids.
Shreveport is a great place to visit if you are looking for something new and different. Do plan ahead and try to visit at the time of a festival, because this will be quite an experience, no doubt. The gambling should be fun, and Expensive, naturally, but no matter what you will do, you will be entertained and be have an experience of a lifetime. It isn’t a big city, but it is an interesting city.
(All this stuff at the bottom I just had to fill in something. Time of year, yeah whole life, type of travel?..none, yeah, you get the idea)
