This bed & breakfast was a complete surprise in the middle of Northern Louisiana! The Slattery House is a Victorian home originally built in 1903.
Why stay in a casino hotel when in Shreveport for business or pleasure?
These folks have the luxuries of home combined with the smarts of hotel
chains completely figured out. Upon arrival we were shown to our upgraded room and given three keys(front & back doors and our private room), we were then given a brief overview of the amenities and a time set for breakfast the next morning.....then we were completely left alone(unlike a few smaller B&B's formally visited.)
There were six unique rooms each varying in size and decoration with the cost ranging from $99 - $150 plus tax(4.5% tax)...this rate includes a full hot breakfast for up to two persons.
The guest rooms were completely charming with antique furnishings to finish out the antiquity of the home. Each room has a private bathroom varying in sizes, with nothing forgotten! A nice basket with toiletries included with enough towels for several showers (or baths.) Our deluxe suite had the sitting area for reading and each room contained a private telephone line and television.
I ventured out into the hallway where a beverage & snack area was set-up with a mini refrigerator with cold beverages. A coffee/tea/juice service was set-up for the next morning so that you could have your morning beverages in the privacy of your room prior to breakfast. There were baskets of magazines and local restaurant menus in case you were a stranger to Shreveport.
I snooped around each room and discovered cherished photographs, keepsakes and a collection of interesting books for a long read. I would have been perfectly happy in any of the six rooms and look forward to my return when I can try a new version out for size!
We awoke the next morning to freshly brewed coffee and a newspaper under our door. Upon transcending downstairs we found the lovely dining room table complete with china service and crystal. The homemade biscuits and jelly along with the smoked bacon & sausage that was cooked on the outdoor grill was just like my mother's cooking! And boy am I a sucker for southern grits!
We enjoyed our brief one night stay after the winter storm had hit the south so the front lawn had a nice white covering of snow...but even through the wintery glaze I could imagine our return on a warm summer month when we could enjoy the outdoor 2nd floor verandah and the outdoor swimming pool area.
I highly recommend this little piece of southern heaven in the Highland Historical District of Shreveport anytime of year!
