| lovdbyGod7's Full Review: Shreveport |
I lived the first 17 years of my life here, so I feel qualified to tell exactly what kind of a place Shreveport is. First of all, let me say that I am so glad that one of the three reviewers of this city talked about something besides gambling. Unfortunately, that is all Shreveport is known for outside of the city.
How it is to Visit
Well, I may not be quite as qualified to speak about this since I have never looked at Shreveport as a tourist destination. Consequently, I can't tell you exactly what to do when you go there, but can tell you a few things that make it a good place to visit.
~Of course, the gambling. With 5 (?--I lost count) casinos to choose from.
~Great restaurants: Broccato's, Monjuni's, Red Lobster, etc.
~Plenty of hotels and movie
~Southern hospitality
How it is to Live There
Shreveport has its share of violence, but what city of 300,000 doesn't? Yes, there are some bad areas of town (Cedar Grove, Martin Luther Kind Blvd, etc.). But there are some good things, too. The Southern hospitality is very nice (no pun intended), so you will make friends quickly. Plenty to do. And, most of all, there is one great school. Caddo Magnet High School is the best school in the state and one of the best in the nation (according to Redbook Magazine). They boast, on average, 15 National Merit Semifinalists per year (3 or 4 is high for most schools) and an ACT composite average about five points higher than the national average.
I recommend Shreveport for anyone who wants to visit a medium-to-large Southern city with a number of things to do.
