Read the other reviews of Shreveport and decide if you want to spend some time there. If you say “yes”, you must sleep somewhere and the only place to stay in Shreveport is the Remington Suite Hotel. I have stayed there at least four times and I live in Shreveport. Suites, and they really are suites, start at about $90 a night on weekend packages. Also inquire about a “corporate rate.”
The Remington tries to be a top-notch hotel. All the rock bands stay there when they are in town–ZZ Top was the last I saw there (not the concert, the band). Bill Clinton stayed there when he was here. Donald Trump stayed there when he was in town for the Miss America Pageant. George Hamilton stayed there too. The staff is exceptionally attentive. For example, I stayed there one time with a close personal friend. We looked at our options and, for that night, we decided on one of our favorite meals, pizza from Pizza King (another potential review). We ordered delivery and about 20 minutes later it arrived by room service on a silver tray with cloth napkins. We decided to order a bottle of wine to go with it and received an excellent recommendation from the bellman.
Anything you want (that’s legal), they will try their darnedest to get. They are the kind of staff you see in an old movie. Well, not totally. Now the criticism.
With the low room rates and exceptional staff, it seems that there is not enough money left over to keep the hotel in top condition. The halls and rooms could use some maintenance. I don’t mean run-down, just not perfect. They are short-staffed at night. They have a manager and one other person to handle the whole hotel, valet parking, driving guests, and everything else. Sometimes, they are a little slow.
Skip the restaurant and go over the river to L’Italiano. They’ll drive you there for free. You also have access to the nearby dinner clubs and the Harrah’s Casino is within walking distance.
If you are coming to Shreveport, I can’t imagine someone wanting to stay elsewhere. Unless you don’t want to pony-up ninety bucks for a two-room suite.
Summary: one-room, two-room, three-room suites, great price, great service, great location. Jacuzzi tubs, health club, tennis courts.
