My wife and I went to Branson, Missouri this past weekend for our fifth anniversary. It wasn't a big trip, but it's what we could afford at this point in our lives.
We drove into town Saturday morning and decided to go to a couple of the outlet malls. Yep, Branson has three huge outlet malls with many different brands such as Polo, Hilfiger, Disney, Oneida, Fossil, Golf USA, etc. you can find just about anything in Branson.
After we spent all of our money at the outlet malls, we went to check into our motel. We weren't sure how nice the place would be, but when we got inside and saw our room, we were pleasantly surprised. Most of the motels I called about were under $100 per night, which isn't bad for a tourist trap town.
While we were sitting in our nice hotel room, we were trying to decide what we were going to do that night. We didn't know if we would go to a show, or just bum around the town. My wife said that she had been to see the Baldknobbers about 10 years ago and they were funny from what she could remember.
So, we went and checked on some tickets for this show. There were some available and they were $20 each. As far as Branson shows go, that wasn't a bad price. Some go as high as $40 each or more, but most are in the $30 and under price range.
We got to the show around 7:15. It didn't actually start until 8:00, but they had a pre-show at 7:15. There was a man playing a piano and telling jokes. He said that he had been playing piano for 69 years and still loved it. He also said that he had a 5 year old daughter (he must be a glutton for punishment).
After he finished, the lights went dim and the curtains came up. there were about 15 - 20 musicians and 2 idiots in the show. The musicians were wonderful, but the idiots made the show. They were absolutely hilarious.
The show lasted a little over 2 hours (not including the pre-show). It was filled with great music and wonderful humor, all done very tastefully and clean. The music was a combination of country & western and gospel with a little patriotic music at the end. The singers and musicians were all very talented. The comedians were very funny throughout.
One of the best things they did was at the very end of the show. They sang each theme song for each branch of the US military. when they began each song they asked everyone to stand who was serving or had served in that branch of the military. It was refreshing to see all of the older men stand up and be honored. It was also very touching to see how proud they were of their accomplishments.
If you are planning on taking a trip to Branson any time soon, I would suggest stopping by and seeing The Baldknobbers show. If you like country music and good, clean comedy, you won't be disappointed.
**I put down below that the cost is moderate (less than $200 per day), but you can get by with less than $100 per day for a couple if you stay in a less expensive hotel and don't hit the outlet malls like my wife and I did.
