| le_champion's Full Review: The Strip |
My wife just got back from Vegas. We were there five days and stayed at the Flamingo (see my review). (Oct 2005).
The Strip was just AMAZING. We enjoyed every bit of it. If you're planning on a trip to Vegas, I would recommend staying in the middle of the Strip as you do a lot of walking. Central hotels would be Flamingo, Ceasar's, Bellagio, Harrahs, Imperial Palace, Ballys.
Not to miss: the Fountains at the Bellagio were great. They run a show every 15 minutes so you can hang there for an hour and see four incredible shows, with the fountains dancing to the music. Also, we really enjoyed the Volcano at the Mirage. Very nice. We also visited pretty much all the hotels on the strip... from Mandalay Bay to the new Wynn's. We didn't do the north end of it (Stratosphere, Circus Circus, etc.). We did see them by bus on our way to Fremont. Which is another thing not to miss. Take the 302 bus to Fremont and you're in for a treat! The light show over there was amazing. There were also a couple of live bands there with people dancing in the street... lots of fun. You can also grap a cheap bite to eat there as well. We ate at Tony Roma's which was really good.
Casinos: I like black jack, but the cheap tables. In the major casinos, minimums are $10 but a lot of older casinos had $5 tables, such as Casino Royale, O'Shea's and a couple of others. One drawback is the smoke! If you're a non-smoker, this is a turn-off. But there's not much you can do about that.
Restaurants: We had the buffet at Ballys which was great. Other places we ate were Bertolinis at Ceasars and Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. Both were exceptional. We also went to Rio for the breakfast buffet which was well worth it.
It is worth your time to visit the hotels... they are all unique and beautiful. The ones that were impressive were Bellagio, Ceasar's, MGM, Venetian, Paris, New York and Wynns.
Shows: We saw three shows there. KA (Cirque du Soleil) at MGM was definitely the best. Just unbelieveable. We also saw Le Reve at Wynn's which was just as good. We also wanted to see a more sexy show, so we took in Skintight at Harrah's. It was OK.
