The Las Vegas strip, one of the more interesting places to go. Certainly a place to see once in your life. Below are some important pros and cons to consider when planning a trip to Vegas.
Pros:
-You will never be bored. Unless you stay in your hotel room, you will never be bored on the Vegas strip. Whether you're on a large budget, or a small one, there is always something to so.
-You will get to see all sorts of interesting things. The Strip is loaded with things you will probably not ever get a chance to see at home. From shows to casinos to shopping, everything there is on a grand scale that few places can duplicate.
-You could win money! With alll the casinos and slot machines on the strip there's certainly a chance to win money.
Cons:
-Everyone wants your money. In Vegas, especially on the strip, everyone is selling something. Almost anyone you meet is expecting a tip, including the people who open the door for you, hail your taxi, or anything else. Pick up a Fodors guide before you go and read up on tipping protocol.
-Things are more expensive than you would expect. Even small things in Vegas cost money. Going to the top of the Stratosphere Tower to look out the window costs money. The roller coaster at NY NY costs $10. It takes a good knowledge of free things to do to take a cheap trip to Vegas.
-Everyone on the street wants to hand you smut. If someone on the street is trying to hand you something without talking to you first, it's a booklet o' smut. Unless that's what you want, don't take things from people on the strip.
-You might lose money. Every single game of chance in Vegas has the odds far in favor of the house. Remember if you gamble that the tables are there for the casino to make money, not for you to win. Keep your expectations for winning low, so if you do win, it will be all the better.
Highlights of the strip:
Here are a few of the 'must see' and 'should see' places on the Strip.
-Every casino you can get to. All of the hotels have casinos and they're all interesting and worth seeing.
-The fountain at Bellagio. Throughout the afternoon and evening the fountain at Bellagio puts on a stunning show that is in time with music. An amazing sight.
-Caesars. A really classy casino, and a HUGE mall area with over the top versions of some really great stores. At the end of one wing is the Race for Atlantis ride, and an aquarium/fountain thing that puts on a show on the hour.
-Treasure Island. In front of Treasure Island an amazing show is put on with boats and pirates and fire that is worth seeing.
-The Las Vegas Hilton. Home to Star Trek The Experience and the second largest sign in the world.
-NY NY. A great New York themed casino and hotel that does a good job capturing the New York feel. The coaster there is a lot of fun too.
-Stratosphere Tower. The best view of Vegas that you're going to get without being in an airplane. Great place for taking pictures. The 2 rides on the top of the tower (High Roller, and Big Shot) would be unspectacular on the ground, but are a lot of fun 1000 feet off the ground.
-Showcase Mall/Gameworks. Home to the largest Coke bottle you have ever seen. Also home to Coke World and the M&M's University. You can get M&M's in any color of the rainbow, even silver!
-The shows of Vegas. While you're at the Strip don't forget to catch a show or 2. With 2 Cirque Du Soleil shows, Blue Man Group, Sigfreid and Roy and countless other shows, you are sure to find one to suit your taste.
There are more sights and things to do in Vegas than I can list. If going to Vegas be sure to do a lot of research before you go, so you don't waste valuable fun time deciding what to do next.
