Greetings to all that read this. This past weekend I had taken my first trip to Las Vegas. I work for Time Out NY magazine and used the guide they have given me which is highly recommended. Definately use Time Out Las Vegas guide because it really gave me good insight on where to go and what to do and what to expect. However, it didn't prepare me for the 120 degree heat I felt out there and the meat locker air conditioned casinos I felt inside. It felt like a constant change from summer to winter. But that will not stop you from having fun with either gambling or just riding one of the many roller coasters out there.
Hotels: My Favorite hotel in Las Vegas had to be the "Venetian" hotel. I didn't stay in that hotel but, the beautiful renaissance re-creations of Michaelangelo's work on the ceilings and marble floors is enough to make you go oooooohhhhh and aaaaahhhhhhhh. And the little canal that goes around the majestic facsade of the hotel for a relaxing gondola ride is simply beautiful. The next best hotel to see is the "New York, New York" Hotel. Their theme of NY is great and as a local NY person, I really got the feel of their re-creations of NYC. It was done so well and their roller coaster ride is awesome. Maybe a bit steep for $10 per person to ride but, there are ways to find discounts. I only found them a bit too late and on the outskirts of Las Vegas city. That's kind of far and only if you're driving to California. But New York is the hotel to definately visit. As for the "Bellagio", it's just a very fancy hotel. Aside from the beautiful fountains in the front, I found no true theme to the "Bellagio". Just that it's very fancy. The outside of "Paris" is pretty but, inside it's just a casino. It really didn't keep the theme going that much. Don't ever miss the "Treasure Island" show. That was so much fun. "Caesar's Palace" was ok. It has a great shopping area and also has a cool show that goes on every hour. FAO Schwartz is in that hotel as well. "The Stratosphere" looks sick and scary when I saw it on the outside. I didn't want to go there because I was afraid of riding the roller coaster on top of the roof by myself. Yikes! I've listed all the hotels I truly liked. There are so many other places and more classic and historic hotels too. You'll know which ones they are and I hope this helps you a bit.
Casinos: I am not much of a gambler. I pretty much broke even with my experiences in beginner's luck. But someone did give this tid bit to me. It was to pretty much gamble at the older casinos cause the newer ones are tougher. The newer hotels will look to swallow your money to pay for building such an extravagant place. The older ones and more classic hotels aren't as tight to give away money and let you win. I found that to be somewhat true cause I did earn a lot of my money in older places. Then spent my winnings in newer places. I was lucky at the "Bellagio" but, anywhere else was not really all that lucky. And this is referring to the machines in the casinos. The tables is a bit different and the outcome is always greater in every hotel. And now they have guards making sure the game is legit and no one is cheating. Weird huh?
I really loved the lights and the energy and charisma Las Vegas brings to you. There's always something to do at any time of the hour at any day. It never stops. Hell, there are even casinos in McDonald's and IHOP. That's funny to me. There isn't really anything I truly hate about Vegas. Just annoyed with the 9% sales tax and the cost of things like food or a roller coaster ride or souvenirs is a bit steep. But then again, I am sort of used to it cause where I come from, it's just as bad. But now I know and when I go back real soon, I will be more prepared with my finances and remember my gambling tips.
This place is for all kinds of people. Families, couples, tour groups, out of towners, everyone. Kids & adults and elderly of all ages. This is a must see place that can't and should not be missed. I definately thought this was a cool place to be and I know you will think so too. So on my scale of 1(*) to 5(*****) stars, I give Las Vegas **** stars. Very Enjoyable so book your travel plans today! :-)
