On our trip to Las Vegas we stayed at the Treasure Island, which is located on the west side of the strip, north of most of the casinos. We did not rent a car, we decided on taking a cab.
We found ourselves doing a lot of walking. We walked down the strip from Treasure Island to Mandalay Bay. What an amazing site. The hotels have really put a lot of money into making their casinos a showplace. The casinos were beautiful. The areas in front of each casino were unique and set in the theme according to where the casino was portrayed to be. The Venitian was patterned after Italy. The Belligio had a beautiful lake out front, with a spectacular water show.
We thought that the west side of the strip was more walker friendly (that would be the Ceasar's Palace side). The east side of the strip seems to be darker and dirty. They are building a new hotel, I believe called The Dessert Passage. So, maybe it might get cleaned up when it is finished.
A few things that we did not like about walking down the strip were
1. The individuals passing out flyers. It seemed like on every corner there was a group of people trying to hand you flyers with sexual content. We noticed newspaper stands containing the same material. It seemed to us that if an adult wanted a flyer they could easily get one out of the news rack. This was also a lot of the cause of litter on the ground.
2. The aggressive/high pressure sales people. Some were from the casinos trying to get us in with the offer of a free show. Then they want you to take a tour of what they are offering in order to get that free show. You had to be married, own your own home, and I am sure have a job. So we decided that we would be everything they didn't want us to be. That way they left us alone. In fairness to the casinos, they seemed to be employees of other companies inside the casino.
Overall our experience in Las Vegas was great. You could spend a week looking at the sites. The Las Vegas Strip is a beautiful place day and night.
