What a great write up. I live in Suburban Reno. I enjoyed reading your narrative of our neck of the woods. Great literation!

I've been dreading the conference I have to attend in Reno this fall. Now you've given me something to look forward to (and somewhere to escape when the conference gets boring). Thanks for your wonderful insight.

Bright Lights, Big Pity (Reply to this comment)

According to local legend Lady Lack, the fat, homely step-sister of the similarly named Las Vegas patron saint, created Reno in her own image.
This in the vainglorious hope that by blighting what is otherwise a gloriously beautiful landscape, visitors would be distracted from the fact that Reno is a cheesy rip-off of Las Vegas--birthplace of the cheesy rip-off.
Thank you, dear sir. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who had noticed there lies great beauty just beyond the blight.

I never Knew the other Reno . . . (Reply to this comment)

In the early 60s, I flew in every other week to trim the windows at Joseph Magnin and left in the afternoon as soon as I was done. I hated being there. There was nothing but gold, glitz and gamblling. If I had been aware of the places you spoke of, I might have walked around a bit and enjoyed the sights..
Nice review.
