I have stayed in many hotels and B&Bs in Albuquerque, but I believe I've now discovered the best accommodations in town. Casa del Granjero (The Farmer's House) is an unexpected 3-1/2 acre oasis in NW Albuquerque. The main house is an old Territorial adobe with clerestory great room that has a massive sculptured adobe fireplace, bancos, lounges, and library. It is almost cluttered with Old West and Indian artifacts, but the massive house can handle it.
There are three guest rooms/suites with private baths in the main house, and four more in the newer adobe guest house across the lane. We stayed in the Cuarto Grande Suite in the guest house. This suite has a hand hewn willow kingsize canopy bed with beautiful quilt, a kiva fireplace, and willow armchairs. An adjoining room holds two daybeds with matching quilts and fluffy pillows. This suite has a huge walk-in tiled shower for two, separate "water closet" for privacy, dressing area and large wardrobe containing cuddly robes. This suite opens on to the front courtyard where roses and hibiscus draw hummingbirds, and cats laze around on the concrete portal. The feel of this place is so serene and comfortable, that I did not want to leave.
Guests have full run of the guest house and the main house, kitchen privileges, two huge dens with 52" TVs in each, hot tub and sauna. The innkeepers are gracious and helpful, and they served a wonderful full breakfast with fruit, hot entree and pastry. As if all this weren't enough, you can also enjoy their pigmy goats, cats, chickens, and gorgeous champagne draft horse and foal.
Prices are $79.00 (room) to $159.00 (suite). The Cuarto Grande Suite was only $129.00 per night for two people--unbelievably low for such desirable accomodations. I understand that the rooms and suites in the main house are even more "luxurious" than the guest house.
If you like southwestern decor, roomy comfort, PRIVACY, and cats, this one should not be missed.
