When I first visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC ten years ago, I was amazed at the variety and time period variation. At least 5,000 people per day walk through and observe the fine assets of the "Met", and I'm sure from personal experience that every one of those people, by the end of their day, have been enriched in some way or another.
If not by the paintings, then by the crowd, and if not by the museum, then by the city itself. Some way or another, fascination sets in before you begin to get cramps. Well, that is, if you are out of shape and cannot walk through all the exhibits. The museum is quite large, and can hold about 2,000 people or more at a time. Although some rooms may be empty at any one time, other rooms can and will be packed because of demand to view a certain artifact.
The admission price is up for your decision. Now, you may be wondering what I mean by this, but there is only a one cent minimum charge. This means that you MUST make a donation to the museum. If everyone only gave one cent, however, the museum would not have enough money to restore any old or new artifacts for viewing. Thus, the suggested donation is $5. You DO NOT have to pay this amount, however. Once again, it is up to you.
Different styles of paintings and sculptures range from classic Greek and Roman to modern (19/20 century pieces). I personally love to visit the mummy and Rembrandt/Monet/Matisse sections, where the finest art and most enjoyable facts are kept. For those of you, like myself, who are intelligent people that enjoy enriching their lives with knowledge of history and culture, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC (New York City) is the place for you to go on a weekday or Sunday afternoon. I would not suggest Saturday because it is much too crowded.
