Review Topic: Sights & AttractionsThis is a local pub/restaurant which has recently opened but the owners, there are four men who jointly own it, own 3 other bars/restaurants in the area that continue to be very successful.
Always looking for place where I can have dinner and smoke too, not an easy thing to find in New York, I stumbled across this place purely by accident. A friend and I went for dinner one night and I have been back several times since then.
Dooley Mac's is an Irish pub with a rustic decor. The bar and eating area around the bar have a bunch of televisions scattered around all showing different sporting events, giving it the feel of a sports bar too. There is a private room upstairs they use occasionally when the place really fills up and that they rent for private parties. They also have a private room downstairs with a full bar and in good weather it opens up to a patio in the back of the building. You overlook a parking lot but the patio has a fence and kind of a private feel to it.
The menu is varied, offering a long list of appetizers. The main courses range from Irish standards like Fish & Chips and Irish Stew to burgers, sandwiches and wraps to salads and then a nice assortment of deserts
I brought my kids for dinner one evening and we tried a bunch of different dishes. We started with a platter of appetizers, hot buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, fried zucchini sticks, chicken tenders and baby back ribs. I didn't care for the Hot Wings because they used only Tabasco to make them hot and I don't really care for Tabasco. The Chicken Tenders were just that and were served with 2 sauces and the Zucchini and Mozzarella Sticks were tasty and fried up nice and crispy. The BBQ Baby-Back ribs were great! It was a big portion for an appetizer and the meat just fell off the bone they were so tender. These were gone in no time!
For the main course, #1 son had a burger which was huge, served with crispy French fries, lettuce and tomato and a slice of onion and a pickle. A man-sized serving he was quite pleased with. The burgers are large and real chopped meat....no processed meat patty here!
Son #2 ordered a Caesar Salad, what can you say about a salad.....it looked real fresh and again was a generous portion. There was none left over and he was smiling.....so you can rest assured it was good also!
#2's girlfriend had the Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwich, chicken breast with onions and American cheese, also served with fries and a pickle. She said the chicken was very tender and the bread was very good.
I ordered the Shepherd's Pie, chopped sirloin and root vegetables in a hearty gravy topped with a layer of "poundies", the house special mashed potatoes which are flavored with garlic and seasonings....quite tasty. If you like your mashed potatoes on the plain side....skip these! A tasty dish but unlike any other Shepherd's Pie I've had.
On my last visit I tried "Salmon Pea Wiggle" (must be an Irish thang!) This was actually quite good, "pan seared Irish salmon filet with leeks and green peas served over a pile of poundies." A very nice blend of flavors!
All and All.....if you're looking for a very reasonably priced meal with a nice down home atmosphere than Dooley Mac's is a good choice!
If you're lucky and can stay up late, they have live music there several times a week. Often old time Irish Music! I'm afraid I have not caught any yet because they generally don't start playing till 10:00 p.m. and by then I'm reading my final reviews in Epinions before bed.
ONE FINAL NOTE: On Saturday, October 14th, Dooley Mac's is located in White Plains, New York, just 30 minutes north of the New York City and will be the meeting place for a group of Epinionators from as far away as Ohio and Florida and from all over the tri-state area. If you are within driving distance and would like to join us Please e-mail me or ACDC711 for more information. There is a list of Epinionators who are planning on attending on my profile page in case you're interested. The more the merrier!
P.S. There was not place to post this in the restaurant category.
