Seriously, I will definitely check this place out if I am ever in Columbus, in fact based on your review I might just have to arrange to go there sometime.
Instead I went to Cleveland, oops! (But that's a story for another epinion...)
One question, what's wrong with male cooks?

Well, it is an Americanized place(they aren't Mongolian), and I just feel that having that many cooks(there must be somewhere around 15 of them total), and all of them being male is pretty sexist. A woman can't take those sticks and toss around some food? Other than that one thing, I find the social atmosphere of BD's to be beyond reproach.

My wife and I spent three years in Okinawa, as a matter of fact we often ate at the Mongolian Barbeque just outside the Kadena Air Force Base Main Gate (Probably the same place your father remembers) The food was excellent, and we always enjoyed eating there. The place was still in business, when we left in Sept of 95. Good review.

I've eaten at BD's Mongolian Barbeque three times, and your review is right on the money. In fact, I've decided not to write my own review because yours is so complete. I don't believe you mentioned the lunch pricing. If memory serves, it's $6.95 for a single bowl, $7.95 for a single bowl and soup/salad bar, and $9.95 for all you can eat. This is a little pricey for lunch, I guess, but it's a great way to find out if you like the place.

Mongolian Barbeque sounds like a great unique place. I definately have to check it out... One question? Is this unique only to Columbus or does it exist in other cities? Cleveland maybe? I'm at a loss!

I don't know if it is a chain or not; you might want to check around and see if there is one near you. I know about this one, only because I physically saw it, and I immediately ate there.
