Pros: less crowds, great prices
Cons: zoo isn't spectacular, winter months don't have much to do
The Bottom Line: Tulsa has lots of great fun without the tourists prices.

I have to admit, I'm a bit biased to the city of Tulsa, just because it is so close to my home. I live only an hour from Tulsa and it's just great fun for my family for a weekend get away. I'm the kind of person that doesn't enjoy traffic in a big city, in fact I'm intimidated by it. If you are someone like me then you will feel at ease in Tulsa.
Fun for the whole family I suggest if you have small children that you visit Tulsa in the warmer months. When it's warm but not too hot is the best time to visit the Tulsa zoo. It's not the best zoo in America, I admit. But it's just enough to keep the smaller children entertained for the day. There is also a waterpark located near the fairgrounds for those absolutely blistering summer months. Also near the waterpark is a small amusement park known as Bell's. It's not Six Flags, but it's enough for a few thrills. And what child isn't in heaven when they are in Celebration Station or Chuckie Cheese? Tulsa's got them too. If the weather is just too hot for you, there is a place right across from the mall on 71st called Incredible Pizza. This indoor facility contains go-carts, a small miniature golf course, and lots of games. Attached to Incredible Pizza you will find an indoor paintball facility as well. Some of my favorite Tulsa times though, are spent at the Tulsa Fair. You can easily spend a whole day eating fair food, looking at exhibits, riding rides, visiting the petting zoo and checking out all the animals. Whew! I'm worn out just thinking about all the fun. The Tulsa Fair happens in the cooler month of October.
Great eating for great prices Tulsa has all kinds of great places to eat. I often go to Macaroni Grill, located near the Woodland Hills Mall. But my absolute favorite is Zios. MMMMM, I just love pasta! Zios is great fun for my son and inexpensive for a dine in restaurant. It's located on 71st and Yale. We've taken a whole soccer team of young boys and had no problems what-so-ever. All the boys sat at a table alone and the waitors/waitresses were absolutely great with them. Zios has hefty helpings (at wonderful prices) too for those that can put away the food. For those that don't like Italian as much as I do, there are tons of other places close to the mall as well. Any guy is in heaven in Hooters or the Outback. Great places for a steak are as far as the eye can see.
Shopping, shopping and more shopping I couldn't write about a great city without including some SHOPPING! Woodland Hills Mall, located on Memorial Drive, is a great two story mall. Everyone loves Eskimo Joe's t-shirts, and they are cheap. If you aren't from Oklahoma I would definitely recommend getting a few Joe's shirts from the mall for family and friends back home.
Music Lovers Many concerts are held in Tulsa. The types that I love to go to are for the young adult persuasion. Z104.5, the alternative radio station, ensures great concerts for great prices. I like to attend Birthday Bash, Edgefest, and Reggaefest. Birthday Bash is early summer and Edgefest is late summer. Both are concerts costing about 30 dollars for the enjoyment of many bands. Both are held outdoors so dress appropriately. I've seen Third Eye Blind, Candlebox, The Urge, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Save Ferris, Sponge, oh I could go on all day listing bands. The concerts are great fun and very secure. Most concerts start around 2 and don't end till well after midnight.
Tulsa has so much to offer if you take the time to visit. It's not a tourist trap so you can go on a light budget and not have to worry about huge crowds. If you want to fly in instead of taking a roadtrip, Tulsa has a great airport facility as well. Hmmm, wonder if I can talk my fiance into a weekend trip soon. I think it's time to take a little get away to Tulsa!
