Believe me. I am well aware of the incendiary nature of the title of this article. Everyone's got their own ideas. Everyone's got their own opinions. Everyone's got their own tastes. And everyone gets really uptight when you don't speak highly of their favorite pizza, but I've never let a little controversy keep me down.
I know this topic could very well lead to a mailbox full of scathing flames about someone's mother's secret recipe or So And So's Pizza in the South Hills, but let us remember that this is merely my opinion. So in that vein, allow me to present my top three choices for best pizza in the Pittsburgh area.
Buzzi's Pizza
Rochester, PA
Any of you from Beaver County know that this is definitely the best pizza around. Not only do get excellent pizza with homemade topping, you get to meet the man himself, Buzzi. Although he's been at it for over thirty years, there are many Friday nights, especially during football season, that you'll find Buzzi slopping the sauce and pre-cooking the crust. He's great guy who makes great pizza.
It's cheap. It's Sicilian. It's delicious. And the pizza's not bad either!
Vincent's Pizza Pub
Greentree, PA (Near Parkway Center Mall)
When a shop makes a white pizza that I like, then I know that they make good pizza. Normally I hate white pizza. That changed when a white pizza was ordered for lunch at a Parkway Center client meeting. At first I was disappointed, but then I tried it. It was fantastic.
My wife and I have been back several times since. I think I like their sandwiches even better. The Mancini's bread is the real clincher.
Pizzeria Uno
Wilkens Twp., PA
I know it may sound strange to place a national chain in a local best of, but Pizzeria Uno deserves it. For years I lived just a couple blocks away from one in Cleveland. I never went. Upon moving back to Pittsburgh, my wife suggested that we go there. I could hardly believe how good the pizza was.
The pies are cooked with corn meal in the pans to give the crust an extra treat. The sauce is loaded with chunks of diced tomatoes. Even though its a national chain. It makes my top three.
Conclusion
If you agree with my choices, too bad. They're my choices. If you care to, make a rebuttal right here in the pages of Epinions. I look forward to reading them. Who knows. I may have to append my list if you make a persuasive enough argument.
