This really belongs under the restaurant category. Newport, the city by the sea, should definitely be one of the cities listed in the main restaurant category. People from all over the world visit Newport, Rhode Island.
My husband and I frequently go to a little place called "Yesterdays" located in Washington Square in downtown Newport. We usually attend on a Tuesday evening right before our ballroom dance class. The atmosphere is cozy, the food is fabulous, the service is warm and friendly while being reserved. The bartender, Pete, is great. He remembers what you like without being obtrusive. If something is not to your liking he’s very attentive to your needs and will quickly correct it.
I usually enjoy the lamb salad--a salad of assorted greens, onions, feta cheese, and six 3-inch slices of a mustard marinated lamb. The lamb is cooked medium rare to my specifications. It is fresh, pale pink and juicy. The salad is served with a tasty honey-mustard dressing and a fresh bread stick. Mmmm, delicious! The bartender always remembers I am allergic to tomatoes so he makes sure there aren’t any in the dish. The portions are generous, reasonably priced, and well prepared. This salad is only $9.95
Their white chowder is also excellent--a thin, rich, creamy stock, well flavored with lots of potatoes and clams. It’s a real New England treat--simple and good, not cloying or pasty or thick.
There is also a fabulous selection of micro brews on tap, so you can try one a week for at least 20 weeks and not taste the same one twice. If you don’t know what you like, you can always try a schooner, a selection of six 7-oz beers of your choice.
All in all, it’s a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.
