My "comfort food" choice, Tex-Mex style!

If you're looking for good Tex-Mex, Chuy's is my suggestion.
There is certainly no shortage of restaurant choices in this booming town... in fact, they seem to multiply daily! With such a selection, even a resident need not visit the same restaurant twice in any given year. Chuy's, however, has become a regular destination for our family when eating out. There are now 3 locations in Austin, but my personal favorite is the North Lamar location. The Barton Springs location runs a close second. Although the food is good, the 183 location just seems a little too trendy... it's just not the Chuy's that I've come to love so much.
Chuy's adds their own flair to the ever-popular Tex-Mex flavor. No, it's not the most gourmet selection nor the most elegant atmosphere. Quite the opposite, in my opinion! No pretenses here... just some good ol' comfort food, Tex-Mex style. Nothing too fancy on the menu (I don't recall anything over $9) and the decor looks like it was supplied through years of browsing the yard sales of eclectic pack-rats! But it's that relaxed attitude that makes it a perfect place to just unwind & enjoy a margarita after a hot Texas day. It's long been a favorite starting point to those nights on 6th Street for many of our friends.
My all-time favorite dish is the Chuychanga with deluxe tomatilla sauce. More than enough for even a serious appetite, especially after you've developed an addiction to the chips & hot sauce prior to the entree being served! There are lighter dishes and appetizers that are also delicious if you aren't looking for a heavy meal.
I highly recommend giving Chuy's a try if you are in the area. And, while you're there... take a set of photos in the old style photo booth as a token of your visit to Austin.
