Watching the newest commercials for the State of Texas Visitors Bureau has made me think about how true this one commercial is; it refers to Texas as “like having a whole country in one State.” I have traveled this great state and have come to realize just how true it is. The state of Texas has several regions all of which are totally different, like being in separate countries. These regions all of which have names; Panhandle Plains, Big Bend Country, Prairies and Lakes, Piney Woods, South Texas Plains, Gulf Coast and the Hill Country are all beautiful in their own special way. To me none is more beautiful than the Hill Country.
The Hill Country of Texas will offer you some of the most beautiful lakes and scenery in the entire state. The abundance of wildlife will amaze you. The rivers in the area include The Guadalupe, the Blanco, the Frio, the Medina, and the San Marcos Rivers. Each of these rivers includes everything you could possibly want in water fun. Let me introduce you to a few places that I have visited in the beautiful Hill country of Texas.
Great Places To Visit in The Texas Hill Country
Inks Lake State Park – This is a 2,000-acre State Park just southwest of Buchanan Dam. This wonderful park will offer your family a wonderful place to camp, swim and enjoy some of the most beautiful wildlife in the area. The white tailed deer in the park will come right up and eat out of your hand they are so tame. You can enjoy boating, fishing, golf and hiking all right there at this wonderful state park.
Austin – The capital of the state of Texas. This city has so much to offer from great restaurants, art museums, the Capital City Complex and the Austin Zoo. I have always enjoyed trips to this city. The scenery nearby is gorgeous and the Capital Complex is a must see. There is also the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, which was founded by Lady Bird Johnson wife of President Lyndon Johnson this facility includes beautiful landscaped gardens, research center and is great place to see the native wildflowers for the state of Texas.
Guadalupe River State Park – This great park is just outside of the town of Boerne in the Hill Country. This park has around 1900 acres and is in one of the most beautiful landscaped areas in the Texas Hill Country. The beautiful, cypress edged Guadalupe River flows through the park and is a great place for riding a tube of just sitting the cold water and enjoying a hot day. Wildlife is also abundant in this park; you will be able to see white-tailed deer, foxes and armadillos. We have spent great weeks camping at this park over the years and have always enjoyed ourselves.
The Frio River – I can’t begin to describe the beauty of this river. This river runs through the town of Concan. We have floated the river many times and each time there seems to be a new experience. The water is crystal clear and always cold. You can rent tubes in the small town of Concan, they will take you down river and drop you off and you can float right back to the place where you rent the tubes. The float that we took was about 3 hours long but worth every second. Beautiful Cypress trees line the bank of this crystal clear river. Also located in Concan is the most popular State Park in Texas, Garner State Park. A great family place with so much more to do than just enjoy the river. They offer miniature golf, a golf course, swimming and hiking.
I could go on forever naming great places to visit in the Hill Country of Texas. These are just a few of the wonderful things to do and see in this great area of my home state. Texas is a large state and no visit to it would be complete without seeing the Texas Hill Country. This area has all there is to offer a person traveling through, from wonderful State Parks and beautiful rivers to abundant wildlife.
