If you are looking for a place with vibrant nightlife to do business, you have Austin, Texas. It is been picked by Fortune 500 and Business 2.0 as one of the hottest places to live and conduct business. When you know that Austin is synonymous with live music and the place where wannabe musicians what to hit big, you will understand some of the reasons for the selection.
I like Austin for its diversity and the rich art life. I am a fan of Southwest art, I enjoy Native American art and quilting. If you have never thought about it, Austin and its surroundings are the places you want to go to collect artworks and artifacts. Native American art is hot and can bring lots of money. My advice to you is to respect the Native American culture, immerse yourself in its studies and the whole thing will be more worthwhile. Don't go there just for the business side of it if you are an art collector. I am sure you will fall in love with Austin's cadre of lawyers, engineers, techies and Cowboy business people who want to do business with you. Surely, this city is poised to fly high just like, let's say, San Jose, the capital of Silicon Valley. The talent and infrastructures already exist in Austin. And so is the attitude. You will encounter a more welcoming group of people, forget about the vestiges of the old South. Make sure to disregard the past history of the old South in terms of its treatment of minority groups. Be forward-looking and take the current crowd in consideration.
While you are there, visit these museums. George Washington Carver museum displays the best videos, documents, and photographs of the African American culture. This is something to be proud of and shows the cosmopolitan embrace of the city of live music. Anyone is welcome there. Check out the cottage where the Rolling Stone newspaper got started by William Sydney Porter, nicknamed O Henry. It has become a museum. You will get to hear, see and participate in much more.
Enjoy your business trip over there.
