Fort Worth has stuff in it? (Reply to this comment)
by munkus
Living on the other side of the world, I'd always thought Fort Worth was merely an airport for Dallas. How wrong I am! Though by your description of it, it seems like one of those modern rambling airports full of insteresting art and white stone but ultimately confusing.

I was just there (Reply to this comment)

When observing the Etruscan, a friend said: "Now this is what Caesar needed. A nice mirror to see what treachery lurked behind him."
"Yeah," I replied, "but then Shakespeare would've written 'I see you, Brute' -- and that's not nearly as memorable."

We parked in the Modern's parking lot directly between the new museum and the Kimbell. It was roughly the same distance for a brief walk to the entrance of either.
Perhaps you parked elsewhere and entered the Kimbell from the upper entrance (on the other side of the building).

At any rate, we visit the Fort Worth museums once or twice a year. And we occasionally find ourselves near Sundance Square when we're at Bass Hall for a ballet, symphony, etc.. We always visit the Barnes & Noble there and eat in one of the touristaraunts.
Thanks for your insightful perspective on Cow Town. Larry McMurty often discusses it his nonfiction writing.

I always enjoy reading your city reviews. You consistently demonstrate a unique, occasionally melancholy, and slightly skewed (in a good way!) perspective.
If I never see the DFW area again it will be just fine with me, but if fate conspires to strand me there, your review has given me something to think about besides escape.

Insightful... (Reply to this comment)

Nice job here!
Fort Worth has always kind of amazed me. It's so much cooler (hard to believe on a hot humid early summer day) and more livable than neighboring Dallas, and those great museums is a big reason why (no dry neighborhoods is another ;-)
Amon Carter alone seems almost bigger than Fort Worth should be able to handle...and their new digs are VERY impressive.
Have fun!
