Since moving to Dallas a few months ago, my family and I are traveling the DFW area for new and exciting areas of interest. Our main objective is to find all the free spots we can where the whole family can have a good time. In these days and times, "FREE" is something rarely heard. We decided to visit Fort Worth which is only a half hour from Dallas in order to discover its hidden secrets. We lucked out in Downtown Fort Worth.
Amid all the traffic and high rises there was a beautiful area known as the Water Gardens. There is a landscaped park area with beautiful greenery and fountains. There is a landscaped wading pool that is gigantic. The best part of all was the huge water garden itself. Akin to a huge fountain, it consisted of huge stone walls that pyramid down into a shallow pool. The water cascades down the stone walls. Stepping stones lead you down into the depths of the beautiful attraction. Kids play in the water. Tourists are snapping pictures left and right. The scene is rather breathtaking.
The beauty is enhanced by being able to look up and see a city of magnificent history surrounding such a plush area. Ice cream vendors walk around selling treats for the children. Office professionals retreat here from the bowels of the city to relax and have a peaceful lunch. The homeless come here to cool off. I was amazed by the beauty of my surroundings.
My children loved it. They played in the waterfalls. They splashed around and got all of us soaking wet. We took beautiful pictures that will last a lifetime. Best of all it cost us nothing but a dollar a piece for an ice cream bar and the gas it took to get there. I will definitely go back. If you have never been, I highly recommend going. You will be amazed by the beauty of the Water Gardens.
