Re: Some superfluous content (Reply to this comment)

No, I certainly didn't have to put it all out, however it's not something people get to read all that often and it gives them that opportunity. And thanks, I just got to read it again. Words like those are good for the soul.

Some superfluous content (Reply to this comment)

You really didn't need to quote Lincoln's entire Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural Address. A simple mention that they are inscribed on the inner walls of the temple would have sufficed.

Excellent review! I spent 20 years in Richmond so I had the opportunity to be in D.C. pretty often. I have always enjoyed the monuments and this particular one almost brings tears to my eyes, especially the past couple of years. Too often we (and I'm including myself in this group) complain about our politicians and leaders but fail to remember how lucky we are to be able to complain, freely.
While this sounds corny, I think it's a good idea to occasionally watch Jimmy Stewart in his movie role in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." Being at the Lincoln Monument has the same effect as the movie. :-)

The secularists cannot win out as long as we study the primary documents of our history. Though, I fear, much that goes in D.C. displeases God, the foundation is sure and undeniable. President Lincoln is an example of that, and the memorial is awe-inspiring! Thanks!

Great review (Reply to this comment)

My family and I sat on the steps of the memorial this past fourth of July and watched the fireworks over the Washington Monument. Truly memorable, despite the wicked heat and humidity. Every American should try to make it to DC at least once in their life.

You outdid yourself on this, Phil!
Though historical stuff is boring to me, this was probably the best place that we visited in March. Just imagine - King Jr. standing on those steps making a speech to thousands of people. That is so neat.
Anyway, keep up the fine work :-)

I always found this monument to be spooky when I was younger, but now I look at it as spooky in a good way :-)

You took me to a place I hope to see one day. Back in my youth we had to memorize the Gettsburg Address. Then had to recite it when you do that you study what was said and what it meant so the words came easy for you to recite.
A truly great review.

Very nicely done. What a fitting tribute to the man and the place. Including the words of Lincoln and MLK made this a doubly powerful review. Thanks.
Cheers,
