Get to the Point!

Pros: Big Rides, Great Location, and the best funnel cakes and onion rings money can buy!
Cons: Weekends are extremely crowded. Water Park requires an extra fee.

More on the Point (Reply to this comment)

This past week June 23 thru 26 2003, my wife and I took our Granddaughter (13) to the Point. We had the fortune of staying at the Sand Castle Suites. Nice rooms, etc. Upon arriving at the Resort we followed the roadway around the park to the SandCastle. Arriving a little early 2:30pm (their check-in is 4PM) we were advised our room wasn't ready to come back closer to 4. We were permitted to check in (roomless) and did receive our passes, etc. If you go there on one of their packages read the description very carefully. They can be misleading. After our initial checkin we proceeded to the Main Entrance to the park to purchase Senior Tickets (I am disabled and able to take advantage of the reduced prices.) This was a small problem, the person at the ticket window didn't even know what was going on and had to call a supervisor to her booth 3 times before I was able to get my tickets.
Upon returning to the Sand Castle we were able to enter our room. Very nice and spacious rooms. I'd recommend them.
We ate at the Breakwater Cafe at the SandCastle. Food was good and the server was very pleasant and accomidating. On Monday morning after Breakfast (at the Breakwater), who has a Buffet but we weren't advised, nor was it advertised, of this until it was too late, we all proceeded to the Main Entrance of the Park. HP Parking was pleantiful. The park Neat and Clean, plenty of space to move a wheelchair or electric scooter (which I use) around in most of the gift shops. The employees, most of them, were helpful, some didn't have a clue. I obtained a Disabled booklet with all the information to help us in finding out where to enter various rides. Not being able to do many of the rollercoasters I left that to my granddaughter who simply loved them all, unfortunately the Dragster was down all week.
Food service was another thing. Some of the employees were from other countries and had difficulties understanding the language. The food service there needs serious help, no resemblance of order. Some of the shortest lines were 1/4 /- hr long. It seems the employees only could wait on 1 person at a time. Thus longer wait than usual. Prices were high, as previously reported. We purchased a special drink cup which enabled us to get free refills for our length of stay or for the balance of the 2003 season. Only problem, in order to get refills you were forced to stand in line. Not like some of the other parks that have separate lines or the employees recognize you're needing a refill and take care of you very quickly.
The shows were great and the Disabled areas very roomy. The employees were very accomidating and helpful.
All in all we'd recommend the park but be wary of problems that might arise. Food lines long, prices high. Best, if possible, to eat outside the park. We found a very nice Pizza Buffet within 5 minutes of the gate. Price was great and food exceptional. For the Disabled your first stop should be the Operations Office to obtain information. The employees there were very helpful.

Great review - I don't think I could agree with you more. Glad to see you give VERY underrated rides like the Blue Streak and Wildcat their due.

Raptor and Millennium Force do, in fact, rawk. I live in Richmond, VA and we drove up there just to ride those last year.

Now. Have you ridden Dragster yet? We've been hearing a bit about it but not from anyone who has actually been on it.... I wanna know! Do we make this trip again this year?

*grin*
