DisneyLands Rocket Rods: Thrill ride?? I didnt think so.

Written: May 15 '00
Pros:Nice beginning on take off. You pop a wheely.
Cons:Poor ending and not to many thrills for a thrill ride. Circle Vision theatre(puke)

One of the newest rides at Disneyland is the Rocket Rods. This ride is suppose to be like supper fast version of the Transit Authority ride at DisneyWorld. I was a bit disappointed in it. One reason I liked the old slow calm relaxing ride that took you around Tomorrowland. Also I was expecting a roller coaster type ride and it was nothing like one.

Since the ride was new it was one of the longer lines to stand in. It was a little confusing finding where you get in the line. You see the Rockets taking off in the middle of Tomorrowland, but the line starts in a building in the front of Tomorrowland. This line was the worst part of this ride. You had to walk through what used to be circle vision theater. Watching this old movie hosted by Walt Disney on this circle screen that surrounds you while you wait in line. That itself if you have motion sickness can make you ill and dizzy. I closed my eyes as it made me dizzy walking through the line as this film continued to surround me. I almost fell on Midge I think at one point. After getting out of that room you had to walk down stairs and down a long boring pathway with nothing to look at. Then you walk back up some stairs until you finally get to the rocket rods.

Once you get on the ride your placed in these rocket shaped cars that fit four people. One person per seat one in front of the other. They say that if your pregnant or have motion sickness or heart and back problems you should skip this ride and nobody under 46 inches can ride it. I am sorry but in my opinion anyone should be able to ride this. It says it has a top speed of 35 miles an hour, but most of the time it was rather slow and only on the initial take off did it seem to go fast. It did slow down and speed up way to often so it would jerk you around a bit. You travel around all of Tomorrowland and in and out of some of the buildings. In those building it had some cheesy lighting effects.

I did enjoy the ride itself although I think it could have been much better. That long line and circle vision theatre show I could have done without and the ride was not worth the wait in my opinion. Since i loved the old slow ride through Tomorrowland I was negative about this ride before even going on it. I would try it though because its new and not at Disney World that I know of. I HOPE that they don't switch to this ride at Disney World. KEEP SMILING
