Of the three water parks in the Phoenix-Metro area, this has to be the best one. It fulfills the needs of all family members. I went to this park when it first opened, and haven't visited the other ones since.
This park has an area for small children that kids over 8 or 9 are not allowed in. The only people allowed in there is the little one and their parent or guardian. They also have an area geared toward kids 7-15 that want to do the water slides, but are really quite intimidated by the big water slides. There is no age restriction in this area at all. Heck, I still go in there! They also have the wave pool, the most necessary part of a water park. The waves will be on for 5-10 minutes at a time and then a 10-15 minute break between where the water is all calm. Next, the most essential part (and one reason I have not returned to the other parks) is the "Lazy River." There are tubes that you climb in and just kick it while this "river" takes you around the entirety of the kid's area. I have fallen asleep several times on this. *Note* do not fall asleep on your side, or will be red on only one side of your body.
On to the water slides. You have the typical half-tube waterslides that you must ride in a tube that they provide for you. You can choose either a single-seater tube or a double-seater. There are 4 half tube slides and one enclose slide called the Black Hole. It is dark the entire way down. This is one of my favorites. Then over by the arcade you have 3 tube slides. No tubes are needed for these. They twist and turn and they are not dark inside. Right next to these you have the Bonzai slides. These are the "thrill" slides of the park. They go straight down and really fast. I don't really like them much. I am not into thrill water rides. I know it's strange since I love thrilling roller coasters.
**An interesting fact to note. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure was filmed here. The part where Napolean is at a waterpark. That is Sunsplash!!
Survival tips: WEAR SUNBLOCK SPF 30 or higher!! I have been a lifeguard...and trust me, if you are in the sun all day wearing SPF 30+ you will still get a tan. Be safe!! Don't run! Reapply your sunblock every hour. I also wear sandals into the water and everywhere I go there. Otherwise, your feet will be raw by the end of the day. Bring food with you to go out to the car and eat. The food isn't anything special and it's expensive. BUT, I always bring money for the ice cream shop inside. It is REALLY good.
