Thanks for your comment. My kids are now 4 and 8 and we just went to legoland again about a month ago. My husband and I split the kids up several times so they could go on different rides. It is harder when there is a bigger age spread!
Legoland really is a park for smaller kids and the height restrictions convey that. My 8 year old still enjoys it but she loves legos. I think by age 10, she might outgrow it.
I hope you have fun in the park!!

I know... (Reply to this comment)
by cubmomma
that you did this review a little bit ago, but I really appreciate all the useful information that this review has. As I have a 3 and 8 year old, I decided to go to the Legoland web site and plan my day before I went, because of what I read in your review. I printed up a list of all the rides, NOTING THE HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH RIDE! Some only my 8 year old can go on, and some they both can. It's tricky when you have two that are 5 years apart.
The BIG appreciation is the fact that you mention that there are no trams in the parking lot. They happen not to mention that fact at their web site. As this is a park that really is for little ones, who would have thought that there would be no trams for those little legs?? I guess paying out the (now) $14 for the preferred parking is a must. And thanks for the tip on staying away from the awful pizza.

Ah, they are still rebuilding La Costa -- tons of construction, but the new spa is open. Ain't cheap, but it is open.

I am very jealous about your trip to La Costa. My mom lives in the area and we will be back out in the Spring. I plan to check out the spa then - maybe for a day trip. Legoland is one of my favorite amusement parks - I never outgrew playing with legos - and I could have spend hours there by myself. Plus, we bought a bunch of cool pieces to bring home.
Thanks for your comment!

...in Carlsbad (at La Costa - way cool), but I was without the kids and blew off a stop here. After reading this, I wish I hadn't. I'm sure the lines were very small this week.
Nice work.

We love legos. As a parent, I think they are great for creative play. Plus, my kids, now 4 and 7 will play with them endlessly. It is something the whole family can do and bond together.
Legoland was really one of the best and most unique theme parks I have been to. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Great Review (Reply to this comment)

Thanks for the informative review. Being an avid Lego lover, I am working feverishly to get my two 14 month old boys to enjoy these wonderful blocks as much as I did. (So far I'm having reasonable success.) Legoland is now a place that I can plan on taking my boys to see when they are old enough.

I will definitely be back to Southern Cal. and will check out Bonafante Gardens. Of course, we will go back to Legoland too. My kids are still talking about it.
Thanks so much for your comment.

Oh yes, it's one of the best kept secrets here in California. I went there last year with the boys (4 and 7 at the time) and they loved it more than Disneyland. Less crowds and it had a nice San Diego overcast the day we were there that kept the heat down.
Sorry about the food. I actually thought it better than Disneyland. Can't remember but we did go for one of the places with a healthier selection. I do agree they should have thrown in one of those little Lego toys!
If you're ever up in San Jose area look up the Bonfante Gardens.

You are right about getting a hotel nearby. Not getting a room near Disney was my biggest regret.
Good luck with your trip! I am looking forward to reading your review!

Hey you lucked out with your Mom being close by. I am in Los Angeles County so can do some research. Since I cannot handle these freeways we would have to stay overnight to cut down on the stress, and have a place for breaks and do trips in two days. My Minivan broke down last month so it is taxi service for us until I decide if it gets a new engine or find something on ebay motors.
I think January would be a good time to go.
Thanks for sharing your experience on these places.
I would be exhausted too!

Actually, my mom lives only a few miles from Legoland and we stayed with her (I wonder what she would think if I wrote an epinion or her hospitality?). I can't give you any hotel recommendations. If you would like, I can ask her some more details of how to get there or places to stay. I noticed quite a few hotels in the area.

I have read many reviews on this place and consider going there soon. We would probably do a day and a half as well.
So now I need to see where you stayed at when visting my area.
I do not drive freeways which will make our journey tough, maybe train.

I didn't know Legoland existed either until I started looking into places to visit on the West Coast. It was pretty cool. I wish there was one on the east coast.
Thanks for stopping by to read and rate!!

Hi Brother Phil,
I didn't know about it either until we started to plan a trip to the west coast. My kids love legos so this seemed like a nice destination. It turned out great. I would definitely return. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.
