Located just minutes from Walt Disney World, in booming Kissimmee, is a growing attraction called Old Town. When you see the big ferris wheel you know you've arrived!
What started out as a mere shopping and dining spot has grown into a major, and relatively inexpensive, attraction for adults and children alike. The highlight of Old Town has to be the Saturday Night Cruise- a gathering of classic cars and their equally classy owners. This event attracts fellow car lovers and owners from across the country and it wouldn't be a big surprise to see over 100 cars there in one night! Definitely worth visiting Old Town for even if you're not up for any shopping or dining.
Speaking of shopping, you will find an assortment of shops ranging from your typical Florida touristy gifts, to Disney apparel, Christmas items, classic car items, flags, tattoos, toys, pet items, and the list goes on.
Dining choices abound. There is a Chinese restaurant, a steak house, Italian eatery, full service bar with light snacks, fast food, ice cream shops, candy shops etc. If you can't find anything you like there it's just a short drive -or walk- to one of the many full service, buffet style or fast food restaurants along the strip of highway you are on.
Old Town is both kid and pet friendly (outdoors and leash laws apply of course!). For the younger kids, there are several 'kiddie rides' and a carousel. For the older children and adults, there is the trademark ferris wheel, a roller coaster, race cars and much more and this place seems to be expanding every year!
Aside from the hustle and bustle, Old Town is just a great place to stroll through on a warm Florida evening or just to grab a bench to sit on and take in the sights. When I lived in Florida, a visit to Old Town was a regular Saturday night event, most always enjoyable, but I must advise you that the parking situation is not great. I do believe that this location was not equipped to handle the large influx of people that were drawn to this attraction but I know for a fact that additional parking was being added. To be on the safe side though-if you plan to visit on a Saturday evening, arrive early and enjoy your visit!
