| brak44's Full Review: Paramount's Kings Island |
I wanted to write a little different review and let everyone know what I thought of Fear Fest, the Halloween weekend version of Kings' Island that is going on this month. I would have to say it was worth the admission, if nothing else than to be able to ride Son of Beast at night. The ticket was a reasonable $19.99, for that you had 5 rides operating (it actually turned out to be six, as one coaster that wasn't advertised was also running) and 7 haunted houses. We attended on Saturday night, and the park very quickly filled up. The lines for the haunted houses became extremely long, and we only got to go to 4 of them. They were excellent, especially the one set up at the top of the Eiffel Tower elevator. I only have a few bones to pick, to advise other theme park fans like myself: 1) They needed more Halloween characters wandering the park, a la Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. The ones that were out were very entertaining and well received, especially by those in long lines. 2) They really needed to open up more rides or more of the park, as there were too many people trying to get into too few events. 3) The change over from day admission to night was a bit confusing. We were told the park didn't open for Fear Fest until 8pm, but when we got there a bit early at 7 Fear Fest admissions were being allowed. I was glad we wandered in early, as it allowed us to do more than we could have with the lines. Now, some praises of the park and the event: 1) As always, the park workers were helpful and polite, especially as they were slightly swamped with more people than they seemed to have planned for. 2) The ability to ride world class coasters like Son of Beast at night was great. I only wish more had been open. 3) Great decoration of the park for Halloween. I highly recommend you attend this event, and Kings' Island at any time. We stayed at the Quality Inn in nearby Mason, which offers online booking and is linked to off the park's website; it was fine, large rooms, clean, and several restaurants close by. Once again, a very good experience and a fun weekend.
