Pros: Great rides, especially roller coasters, good water park
Cons: Food, drinks and other "extras" are expensive, water park closes at 6:00 PM
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this park, but it all depends on which day you go - avoid weekends and holidays. Look for special promotions so you won't pay full price.

| mariel9898's Full Review: Six Flags New England |
Six Flags New England opened last year. It used to be another park that got taken over by Six Flags. Last year I kept saying that I was going to go, but never did. This year I had three teenage cousins visiting and decided that I would take them. After several bad experiences over the years going to amusement parks on weekends, I said never again - it's a weekday or nothing. I have been through too many 2 hour and longer waits for the better rides, and I always ended up frustrated at spending that much time in line for a 90 second experience. When I called the park they told me their least busy days are Mondays and Fridays. I took a day off work and we went on Friday, July 27, 2001. There was myself, my mother, and three kids ages 12, 15 and 20.
Regular admission is $39.99. They also have senior admission and special needs admission for $26.99, but you can't get a discount off those. My mom qualified as senior, and my 20 year cousin qualified as special needs since she has a heart condition and could not go on many of the rides. Whatever you do, try not to pay full price. There are discount coupons and promotions being run all the time. There were none in our town, since we live in Six Flags Great Adventure territory (though it's much farther away). We kept looking for a Dunkin Donuts en route because we were told they had $25 entrance coupons, but the one store we found was out of them. We found $3 discount coupons at a tourist info in a rest stop. As we were approaching the park we saw a sign stating $8 off admission. Turns out it was a Pepsi promotion - bring an empty can of Pepsi and get $8 off the regular admission.
Season passes are available for $54.99 when you buy four ($59.99 individually). If you go only twice during the season it's worth it. They are valid at other Six Flags parks. They also open certain rides earlier for season pass holders so you can avoid long lines.
Going on a weekday was absolutely the right decision. It was not crowded. The longest we waited in line for rides was 30 minutes and that was for Superman (absolutely the best roller coaster I've been on). All the rest of the rides were 20 minutes or less wait time. We also stayed until closing time at 10:00 PM and there were less people - my cousin and I went on the adult swing ride twice in row. We got there at about 1:30 PM and ended up riding 15 rides, including those in the water park. Even then, there were some that we missed. Unfortunately, there were at least four rides that were closed, including the Bumper Cars which the kids really wanted to go on. There is a good mix of rides, with several roller coasters (including wooden, steel corkscrew and steel), many thrill rides, and quite a lot of kiddy rides too. We didn't see any shows since the kids were really only interested in rides.
The park itself is very clean, including the restrooms. Only the locker and changing areas of the water park were wet. The staff is friendly, but I did notice that many did not speak English as their first language, and many did not know where certain things were when I asked for directions. One of the roller coaster operators had such a thick accent that people didn't understand her when she was telling them to stay behind the red line. I asked three different people at what time the water park closed and got two different answers and one who didn't know.
Bring cash because everything is not cheap. Parking is $9, though they do have a tram that takes you to the entrance. The food and drink - especially sodas - are expensive. It's $2.59 plus tax for a regular soda. Lemonade is $3.14 with tax, and a small batch of curly fries was $3.25. I paid almost $16 for three ice cream cones and a funnel cake. Games are also expensive as most are $3 per person. I was lucky to be with kids who don't constantly nag for things. They just wanted to ride and weren't interested in games or candy. Also, there is a bungee type ride and a swing and trampoline ride that they charge extra for.
If you want to go to the water park section, go early and bring a bathing suit as they must be worn by everyone going on the water rides. We didn't realize that it closes at 6:00 PM so we rushed over at about 4:30 PM. There is a $10 charge for lockers, $3 of which is a deposit, but they are yours until 6:00 PM. The lockers are small so you may need more than one if you have a large group. Most of the rides are the tube type were you go down a tube either on your back or in a water tube. They rent water tubes but I thought it was unnecessary since all the rides have tubes available. They have single and two person tubes. They also have a wave pool which pretty cool. Plan on going early and spending at least two hours there. Wear bathing suits underneath your clothes or bring a change of clothes. Wearing bathing suits is a good idea since there are other rides in the regular park where you can get wet like the river ride and the log flumes.
I recommend this park, but don't go on a weekend. I heard some girls in saying that when they came on a Saturday the line for Superman was 2 ½ hours. For the amount of money that they charge, it's better to go on a day when it's not crowded so you can get your money's worth on the rides.
