Recently, we took out two boys age 7, and a friend, to Six Flags over Georgia as a last "fun trip" before school started. We saved the ride Splashwater Falls for last so that we wouldn't be wet the rest of the day. The boys decided to sit in back and the ride was great.
Once the ride was over, one of our children said his nose was bleeding. I turned and saw what I thought was a lot of blood(it got much worse)and pinched the top of his nose until we could get out of the boat. By this time, my childs nose was bleeding so badly that his lips, chin, etc were totally red. He had hit the lap bar with his nose coming down the ride.
When we got out of the boat, the people in charge of the ride told us to stay to the side and wait because they had called for first aid. I began walking my child to the bathroom so that I could get something to help soak up the blood and was told again to stay where I was and that first aid was on the way. Needless to say my child was bleeding very badly from the nose area and I couldn't tell if he was cut or not. I tried wiping the blood away with my fingers but it wasn't doing any good to stop the flow. I tried once more to take my child somewhere to get something to help stop the bleeding and was told again that I MUST not leave. That the man coming toward us was "first aid". I stayed where I was because by that time I figured when "first aid" got to us he would take something out of a "first aid" bag to help absorb the bleeding.
A man came over to my child, leaned over, and asked him how many fingers he was holding. The man was a SECURITY GUARD. I said something about this and he told me he was trained in first aid. First aid or not he didn't even have a Band-Aid and my child couldn't breathe for the blood. Finally I told the security guard to get away from him and took my shirt and began wiping the blood from his face and holding it under his nose.
Now, I feel I am a relatively calm mother in most situations considering what 7-year-old twins can get into. My son getting hurt on this ride was not what upset me. The thing that upset me is the fact that I was not allowed to walk my child to the bathroom to get something to try and stop the flow of blood, nor was I given anything at the ride, not even a paper towel or tissue BUT, while we stood there with a steadily growing amount of blood running down my child’s face, the people running this ride began washing down and cleaning the backseat of this ride and spraying disinfectant all over the place. I can fully understand the reasoning for doing this but, we had been the LAST people in line to ride this ride at 10:00 at night and cleaning the ride took precedence over stopping the blood flow coming form my child, and the first aid he received is from a security guard asking him how many fingers he's holding up.
Yes I made this man mad. I told him I was taking my son somewhere so I could clean him up and see where the blood was coming from. He radios ahead and says he had a 002 and 005 (or whatever number he said, which basically meant he had a hurt child and an irate mother). We began to walk to the exit of this ride and were met by no less than 3 EMT'S and the head of safety at the park. They begin cross examining my son on how he hurt himself, if he's cold, if he knows his name etc.: By this time it has been 30 minutes and yes my child is cold, he got soaking wet on this ride, and yes my child knows his name because I've been constantly talking to him and asking him questions to keep him talking to me while we "WAITED FOR FIRST AID".
In the end, we had to sign a form saying we refused the offer to be transported to the hospital, as well as our names, address, and escorted to the exit of the park because everyone had gone home.
Another words, the people at Six Flags over Georgia were more concerned about whether we might sue them than they were about my child.
