| juliebelle's Full Review: Universal Studios Florida |
I visited Universal Studios Florida in May of 2001. This was actually our second trip there after about five years or so and there were lots of changes! The first time I was there, Islands of Adventure and the City Walk did not exist. We didn't go to Islands of Adventure but we certainly plan to on our next Florida vacation.
When you go to Universal bring lots of money with you! Believe me, you'll spend plenty :o)
We went with a family of six and between lunch, ice-cream, plenty of drinks to beat the heat and souvenirs, we walked out of the park having spent in excess of $200 (not counting tickets! Ouch!) Every ride leads you into a store inviting you to buy souvenirs and photos related to the ride. But we thought it was worth the money. The place is loads of fun and with a friendly staff, clean environment, and nice rides it made for an enjoyable day.
If you have pre-schoolers the Barney show is a definite MUST SEE!! It was wonderful and my three year old, months later, still talks about it and has fond memories of when she met Barney! Even my teenage sons thought the show was good (although they would be terribly upset if they knew I mentioned that haha!). They have several other shows also, Animal Actors was great with cute and talented animals and there was a Western style stunt show (I can't recall the name) that was very entertaining although if you have little ones be aware that although it is comical, it can be violent for small children as they use guns in the show (very loud and startling too!).
The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the themes of the rides were a little dated. My children really didn't know who Jaws or ET were and Back to the Future and King Kong were a little before their time as well. Even though they had never seen the movies, they still enjoyed the rides and had a terrific time. The park closes early (I don't remember what time but it's around 7 on weekdays in the spring), but after you exit the park at closing, you enter the City Walk which is alive with entertainment, themed restaurants, and shopping all in a very clean, exciting environment. We didn't eat at the restaurants here so I can't comment on them but most had menus posted outside and the prices were steep.
We didn't expect the changes at Universal so we didn't plan out our vacation to allow for a two-day visit there but next time we will do just that.
