Universal's Islands of Adventures was more of a "water park" than I imagined. What a great way to keep cool in the Florida heat!
I will review each of the rides on the Water Balloon scale.
1 Balloon = Just a little splash, refreshing on a hot day
2 Balloons = Your hair and the top of your shirt will get wet
3 Balloons = Your hair and shirt will be soaking
4 Balloons = You are drenched! Hair, shirt, shorts, and shoes are all sopping wet!
Poseidon's Fury: Escape from the Lost City
1 Balloon
They warn you that you might get wet. However, unless you're on the very front row during the show, you'll probably not get wet. There is a bit of splashing as Zeus and Poseidon fight each other.
The coolest park of the show is when you walk through a tunnel with water whirling all around you. It is a bit misty, but you don't really get wet.
Jurassic Park River Adventure
2 Balloons
Watch out, you're likely to get sprayed by frisky dinosaurs. Beware of the Velociraptors -- you don't want them squirting their "acid" on you. There is quite a steep river plunge at the end of this ride. You can definitely count on getting wet!
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls
3 Balloons
There are several slight splashing opportunities as you twist around inside this flume ride. The grand finale is a giant splash that everyone gets to see. It will be obvious to everyone you pass that you have been on this ride.
Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges
4 Balloons
If you're ready to have some fun and really, really get wet then this is the ride for you. There is a storage bin to protect anything you don't want to get wet. I suggest you store your shoes in here along with anything else you don't want soaked. You will be literally drenched along along this ride. Keep your tickets in a waterproof covering, because you'll get wet all the way down to your undies!
You Might Get Soggy
It's a lot of fun getting really wet on a hot day, but after a couple of hours sloshing around, you may start to feel a bit soggy. We sat on a bench and squeezed the water out of our socks. (We rode the Popeye & Bluto ride twice!)
I wished several times through the rest of the day, we had brought along a change of clothes.
Best Advice:
Carry some extra dry clothes (and socks) with you in a sealed plastic bag. That is the best cure for a soggy bottom!
A word of caution:
When going to the restroom after being soaked to the skin, it requires a bit of extra work. The undies want to stick to your bottom (oh, my). And that's not the worst of it... those great toilet seat covers that protect you from germs.
A wet bottom and paper toilet seat cover make an interesting combination... you might find yourself quite "apeeling" if you're not careful.
Allow extra time to use the restroom and return yourself to normal. You don't want to return to the rides with an attractive seat cover inadvertently protruding from your shorts.
